What I’m suggesting is something that isn’t going to remove or silence someone. So, like with awards, it doesn’t count towards the replies to a topic, and after you award someone it doesn’t bump the thread. This would be similar, your comment would still be there even if it had a bunch of dislikes.
I’m not suggesting an upvote or downvote system. It’s not going to push your comment up or down, or be the “most liked comment.” It’s not a rating.
I returned to Steam a couple years ago after being gone for about seven years. Not sure what you’re referring to with “other forum.” Was it already done in an older version of Steam?
That’s a like. Simple.
The old forums, Steam Powered User Forums (SPUF) was separate from Steam itself.

These forums came about in late 2012. The old forums were shut down in 2017.
That makes sense to encourage positive interactions. Unfortunately, I think some people are afraid to engage on forums because of toxicity. I was one of those people for a long time and took pleasure when I could express myself anonymously by liking a comment that I could relate with.
That's what awards are for.
But don't waste them on me.
Just my two cents on the matter, anyway.
"Look at the likes on my post, its super high, you send the money via paypal first then I will send you the item!"
And then we got even more people screaming on the forums about how they were scammed and Valve should do something. And of course the other ones that will claim Valve is in on the scamming and getting a cut (some have already said that).
And yes people will fall for that... how do we know? Because people fall for dumb scams all the time and they were falling for it on the old forums, which is one of the reasons they didn't include a like/dislike on posts.
The awards were also a dumb move for Valve to do but if you feel the need to "like" something.... give them an award.... and no I don't want one. I wish Valve would get rid of them, they have been nothing but a problem since they were introduced.
