Valve has likely weighed the pros and cons of complying with Germany's requirements and has determined that it's not worth it to them. You should ask German lawmakers to loosen the restrictions instead.

We got over this "German problem" many times, it has been introduced now for a few years, (no offence) get over it.
This is a user forum, nothing can be done here.

I am not an expert in politics, laws etc, but I agree, of all the things Germany could do, this is flabbergasting for everyone, not a Steam problem, as Steam has to comply to a lot of different rules from every country to be permitted to sell games.

I do not know if this is too late; start a petition (Not on Steam), go to the news, make sure news papers hear you, write letters to politicians. If you want to change things at that level, you will need to do more than just come on Steam and complain about it.

It's ridiculous that adult only games are blocked in Germany because of an insufficient age verification...
Agreed. It would have been better for the elected Germany government representatives to mind their own business and let the people make that judgement for themselves. Instead, they've enforced an unnecessary regulation upon the retailers in the spirit of protecting you from booba and vagoo and der weinersnitchels.

The Valve Corporation could undoubtedly adjust their regulations in such a way that they could sell adult games without being in breach of German law...

Blame your insipid politicians and the people who vote for them.

I have all their albums.

Move to another country inside the EU, if you know what I mean. There's no loss for Steam because you'll be using the same currency and paying the same price for games.

I'd have to spend years learning a whole new language...

Tell me you're joking :steamdeadpan:

Anyway, I think they speak German in countries like Austria, Switzerland? ;)

Germany is a private country. They can do what they like. Steam should follow the Germany TOS that they agreed to by entering Germany. You don't get to simply ignore the TOS because you're special.

And they do, by blocking access to adult only games in Germany.

I'd say an ID check for the adults-only section is a reasonable request. I wouldn't mind such a system being put in place.

Agreed, the problem comes if its worth the cost to implement and validate a solution is worth the time and expenditures involved. Afterall this is only effecting Germany, and only effecting a small subset of games sold to German users.

If this was something done by the entirety of the EU it would be totally different.

Sadly Germany has a history of being a bit crazy and overboard with their laws regarding video games, and its entirely possible Valve just doesn't want to deal with their demands as well.

As a wild idea, you could open a bank account on a country that does not require you to be resident (like in some of the Baltic countries) and then create an alt account for all these adult games you're not allowed in Germany.
And that would lead to the account getting permanently suspended for trying to dodge regional pricing restrictions.

All of the Baltic countries use the Euro as currency. I don't know of any separate policies for Eurozone countries, you do?

Yeah, I get it. Personally I think its something that should be implemented across the board. Minors should not have access to those kind of games and the "I am 18 or older" button is not an effective form of deterrence.
Brian9824 21. juli 2023 kl. 3:14
The age gate isn't a deterrent, it's a option that protects valve from lawsuits. Anyone under 18 using steam should have their parents use family view and block adult content

It will happen. It is only a matter of time. Steam will be required to have age verification for adult games. Not a bad thing either. In my humble opinion they should never have allowed adult games on Steam.
