I prefer seeing streams focus on the product itself like some store pages already have for games, rather than a lot of unmoderated "anything goes until it makes the news" content. Given this is an international store and any one country can have an issue with the content being streamed, who's on it, & what they're doing; it'd likely be more of a liability than something of value.
There's also the music industry would likely try to have valve put in an instant DMCA systems for anyone that happens to have copyright music from the game itself, the background, or other sources which would be another problem.
Valve already has broadcasting, its crap but its there. You'd be better off using Youtube.
As mentioned by Mad Scientists, the infrastructure needed to make broadcasting more like twitch would be SUPER expensive.
I don't think Valve wants to run 3rd party advertising (just like every streaming website has to because of the costs involved) and I don't think they want to charge for "subs" or what ever all thats about which they would also need to do because of the costs.
They are also not going to pay people to broadcast. Personally I think thats the dumbest thing streaming companies have done. Now they are in super expensive bidding wars, spending out in some cases a 100 million for a year or 2, just to get 1 person. And in the case of Kick, that money is only there because of crypto gambling and they just hired someone who has admitted to being addicted to gambling.
They had other things too like Steam link and the controller that flopped and I'm sure other things that are not coming to mind right now, it's not bad to innovate and expand on stuff but people should stay in their lane and build what they have better because it can still use a lot of work with what they already have.
I agree, this type of thing really set a bad landscape much like exclusivity for video games that not so EPIC games has done.
Ya I don't think Valve stands a chance in hell at effectively moderating any more UGC content, for a new area, or feature Steme TV, but sure, lets give it a go! Don't knock it until you've tried it.
Twitch is still there to use and if you don't want to nor want to use Kick and whatever Torvo is there's still YouTube.
The issue wuith Kick is it's source of funding. "Crypto Casino" So yueah. Long term prospects probably not the best though ironically they will improve twitcgh. If the big wigs jump ship it makes it easiier for the smaller players to get some attention and profit.
plus there's also youtube
Compared to Youtube, Twitch is puny. What makes Twitch special is the communities that exist on the site. There are a huge amount of smaller/medium communities (200 viewer-5000 viewer streamers, and a couple bigger ones as well) that have created very good communities, a lot better than you'll typically find on a forum or a subreddit. Communities that people enjoy being in, that they keep coming back to everyday and often aren't on any sort of ideological line; some of which have been around for a decade or even longer.
This is an incredibly hard thing to do. Even if Valve gets the tech right, and gets a good player and a well design chat setup and all the other little things, they than need communities and people who keep coming back and want to engage with the platform.
THat makes no sense.
You might as well say "Air is a hot dog." :P
