The "Jester" award is used purely as an insult. It shouldn't exist.
I really hate the "Jester" community award, because it is used purely as an insult. Nobody puts it on something because they think it's funny, it means one thing: You are a clown.

Basically this one award allows people to post insults directly into people's comments, even profiles, with no way to moderate or remove them because Steam insists that it's an award even though it's actually an insult.

This really just shouldn't exist. Every time it crops up it's used in a mean spirited way to disparage posts that people don't like. You can't even see who put it there so you can give them one too. It is effectively a way to bully people anonymously.

I'm not saying this because the clown picture hurts my feelings or anything. I just think that if people want to call someone a clown they should have to do it in their own post with their name on it, not be given the ability to do it anonymously in the other person's post.

Can't mark your ow post as the answer apparently.

Let me help you with that.
I totally agree -like many other users- that when on Steam someone slaps a clown award on a post it means just that, and insult, directly to the person without having to have their name attached to it.

Your solution, while simple, it's perfect for the problem at hand: "..Allow people to remove or reject awards they don't want. Then everyone can judge for themselves if they want it displayed on their post.."

Well, don't let people ruin the Jester for you if you enjoy it!

Here, have another. Certified rare Jester that was not meant as an insult!
Thank you! I will! I'll adopt all the little unwanted Jesters. ;-;

Awww thank you Aetrion! I'll name him... Lester. Lester the Jester. ^^ <3
just add option to hide specific awards

= problem solved

It doesn't even have to be that granular.
Just allow people to make all awards invisible on their end.
If points could actually be used for something of value trolling would stop immediately.

OR, listen to me here, what if we can simply see all the steam profiles that gave an award to something? That way you know who is insulting you.

Honestly, I think Jester awards should exist, but it shouldn't give the recipient points. The current system encourages making bait posts, as is apparent whenever TF2 posts a community event.

That is the point. Be a clown, be clowned. (not you, but others).

where can i buy some of your clown water?
I would never have known about this until I read this topic. There are 2 things I have come to understand about forums.

1) not everyone on them is there for the right reason.

2) if you let them rent space in your head they have won.

Do yourself a favor TC and accept the award for the points. Don't let the individual who gave you the award win. I hate to tell you this but the minute you made this topic them winning is exactly what happened.

If it were me I'd consider this a learning experience and move on. The people who see that clown award, assume it is meant for nefarious purposes and then avoid you like the plague probably weren't worth being friendly with anyways.

There's already 2-3 jester threads a day. Do you really have to go bumping older ones as well?
This isn't a question of whether or not you can personally let it go, it's a question of whether or not your consent should be required for someone to add things to your profile or posts that signal to anyone who sees them.
I can provide some objective reasons why the Jester Award should stay on the Steam forums as an award, and why people need to stop complaining about it.

Firstly, the Jester Award is a form of recognition given to individuals who have contributed positively to the gaming community. It is a fun way to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts made by players who have gone above and beyond to create a positive atmosphere on the forums.

Secondly, the Jester Award has been a part of the Steam forums for a long time and has become a staple of the community. Removing it would involve changing the dynamics of the forums and potentially upsetting longtime users who have come to love the award.

Lastly, the complaints about the Jester Award being "useless" or "meaningless" are unfounded. While it may not have tangible rewards, the award is a form of recognition that can boost morale and encourage positive behavior. If individuals focus only on the physical rewards or benefits of an award, they are missing the point of recognition itself.

In conclusion, the Jester Award is an essential part of the Steam forums, and individuals should appreciate it for what it is - a form of recognition and appreciation for individuals who go above and beyond for the community. Therefore, people need to stop complaining about the award and understand its significance.

I 100% agree with this post. This is also used to bully and threaten people off of forums, and to delete their comments.

It is ridiculous, that an aggressive and hostile third party, can control a part of your profile, that you cannot. Worse, than can get others to do the same for them.

When i saw this being done the other day to a friend, the people who tried to intervene, also then started to get these awards put on them. And a mob mentality started up. This is only possible because of the widespread negative use this icon has.

if the icon must be left in place, then stop awards entering a profile automatically. Awards need to be accepted. And create a way for them to be permanently removed from your profile.

Regards comments, here. Your personal positive experience is not relevant. This icon is bad. There is no such thing as a part bad good thing, or a part good bad thing. It is not good. It is bad.

It begs the question,"Why is someone who ascribes no value to pixels, on a gaming site at all?"
