Show reviews from reviewers like you
A feature that I believe would be helpful for determining if you would like a game would be a filter that only shows reviews from reviewers who play similar games to you. It would both show you the reviews themselves, as well as the adjusted score. This would be really helpful for more niche games. For example: Elite Dangerous is not the kind of game the average player would like because of how complex it is, but it is well made and is well loved among those who like the specific genre that Elite Dangerous is.

So basically the reviews you can see on the store pages now... because thats what the reviews are, people who have played the game. If you just want to see positive reviews, then just sort them.

Just because someone posts something negative about a game doesn't mean its not the kind of game they like.... its more then likely because they had issues with the game.
Steam can not define players "who play similar games to you" on its end. That's what (partially) curators system was supposed to be on players' end.

I've seen reviews that are focused on objective things and reviews based on more subjective things. Some of the reviews are about actual issues with the game like performance, but some reviews are about things like certain mechanics that they didn't like but other people did.

Also, just because someone has played a game you're interested in, it does not mean that they are interested in the same types of games you are. Maybe the game was from an IP you are both interested in, but the genre of game is something only one of you is interested in. Plus, I'm not just interested in seeing the positive reviews. I was mainly concerned about filtering negative reviews about more objective things from negative reviews about more subjective things.

Can they not? When looking at games on Steam, sometimes it will say the game is similar to games you have played, so clearly they're scraping data about what games you have played, and for how long you have played them. They clearly have data about what their users play, so I don't see why Steam can't compare this data. Is there something I'm missing, or are you and I talking about different things?
You basically want reviews from friends which is a thing that shows up first.

I don't have friends. I mean, I technically do, but they were people I added so I could trade TF2 items with them, and never removed them as a friend. And besides, I have never seen a single review from them.

Play games. Make friends from games you play. Those are people with similar interests. Their reviews show up first in the review sections.

Adding randoms to trade with isn't the same as having friends you find in games you like to play.

Get crackin'!

Games have tags attached to them that show the similarities. I've had games I consider completely unrelated show up as recommended, despite that.

People do not have such tags, nor would it be wise to let others attach such tags to others.

Unless Valve wants to create a long survey for users to answer (honestly or not, you never know) then there is no way for Valve to know what people have similar tastes and preferences to you or others. Some question may also have to be things that may be considered private, in order to even have a chance of some kind of correct compatibility table.

It really is't possible for Valve to have such a system for user reviews. If it were, then many other places would have already had such a system for people who work together, learn together and many other activities that involve interacting with others.
