Allow usermade plugins for the Steam Browser?
Steam has many willing developers, and many people who want to help others out. However with the current steam browser we still don't have the ability to create plugins for it even though it's based on chromium (allot of simple chrome plugins should be able to work out of the box).

Also allot of the suggestions listed on here would be completed via plugins and then the Steam Devs wouldn't even have to lift a finger. The only issue is that a system like Googles Bouncer would need to be introduced to keep bad plugins away, otherwise I feel that it's a very cool and useful idea. (In fact it potentially adds a whole new section to the Steam store, although I hope that most plugins would be free...)

Also the very thing I am mentioning in my signature could be done via a very simple plugin...

The biggest problem is that you have to control eachand every plug-in for mal and unwanted behaviour. Which is something Valve does not want to do. At all. And that would only be effective for offically published plug-ins. Nothing is stopping anyone from promoting this totally awesome plug-in that they want you to beta-test before they submit it and which steals your account information.

BTW: promoting other topics in an answer, especially the frequency you do, is frowned upon.

When using google chrome, there are viable options concerning user made plugins.
Various tools can be found in the chrome store.

Sorry about the promotion, I only link it when I think it's relavent. I really want to see Steam allowing people to customise things more on our profiles. (But I'll stop if its bothering people that much.)

Also I know about "mal" plugins that's why I mentioned having an automated system in place akin to Googles Bouncer.

In the end sure some people may be malicious but I think most would actually contribute good things. Also if we had a permissions system showing what a plugin needs access to etc, it would allow people to have some insight on what the plugins they are getting do before they are installed.

I just want Adblock for Steam browser. That's all I need.

Nevander, why would you wan't adblocker for steam... Steam has no external/intrusive ads any way. (Plus you can allready do that...)

Steam web browser certainly does have ads. Just go to YouTube in it. There you go, ads. I block ALL ads when I use Firefox.

Ah I see that's what you meant. I guess something like that would be useful. (I wouldn't know because for me attempting to watch a youtube video in the client results in it freezing...)

But not to derail the conversation, I do think that your idea to allow the adblock plugin would be nice now that I understand what you mean. It would definatly be nice for less advanced users or for users who can't or don't want to edit their hosts file.

Yeah, In warframe if I alt-tab out, 50% of the time my mouse sensitivity goes haywire and I have to restart game, leaving the steam browser as the only option to go on the market or wiki etc. only to get full screen ads and auto-play video ads... seriously ♥♥♥♥ ads, if they were not so invasive I would not care, but try reading a page just to get get a full screen blairwitch ad in my face, bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

No, that is a horrible idea, it would be a tool for all kind of abusive persons.

If you need a fullblown browser use one, the one in steam is not meant for dayli surfing.

I just googled because I thought Steam did screen capturing.
It just does screenshots...which is a good addition.

But I was thinking if I could build a plugin to do screen recording that would be really fun
And no I have done nothing like that.

But if there is one like me then there could be one that knows what to do.

Yes it would be very hard for Valve to make sure that MAL plugins were squashed and not distributed but damn it they don't make games anymore so Steam should be awesome.

Use a screen capture program. Extra client bloat is not necessary. Neither is another security hole that would need to be addressed.
