It needs work if steam is to really break into the living room.
I see that your profile is private, you will need to set it to public for this to work. you can set it back to private afterwards.
You can go to this site and give it your profileid, this is a neat third-party tool.

Putting in your profileid does not give this website access to any of your account that isn't public, meaning, you aren't giving them your login or any personal details. All it can see is what other users see when they visit your page. It basically probes your library via HTTP.
Your profile must be public for this to work, as it needs to be able to read your library.
You can then click the "Local CO-OP" tag, and it will list all of your games that feature Local CO-OP.
From there, you can go to your library and manually "set categories" on those games by right-clicking on them, and creating a "local co-op" catagory.
This category will then appear when in big picture mode.
It is not an ideal solution, and I strongly agree Valve should add the ability to sort your library from within steam, but it will solve your problem for the time being
Thanks for the tip Kojima, this is exactly what I have done in the past, although as eram noted it missed some games for whatever reason. Seems to be the best option currently however.

Wooo! 3 years later and we finally have it. I'm both over the moon and kind of shocked (because I thought at this point Valve must have no will to implement this feature).
