The Steam Deck?
The Steam Machines were awful and expensive.
Probably not going to see a controller v2 any time soon.
You can build a decent PC for pretty cheap

They did.
Can you still make a usable gaming PC with a console budget? Yeah. It's a bit harder to do than it used to be, but it is doable.
Been suggested a bunch of times (which you could have read if you searched) and its more then likely not going to happen because they already tried with steam machines and they were over priced and under powered.
The Deck is the closest you are going to get. But it has its issues, being expensive (but actually cheap for what it is) and under powered for newer games.
You can build a desktop computer, which is all that a console for Steam would be and add their Steam OS on it for cheaper than what you would get a console from Valve for.
If you don't want to build, buy a rebuilt but they have their own issues. But at least since the posts below the prices have become more reasonable, but a "console" (PC) from Valve would be even more expensive as they are not setup to sell computers and unless you are ordering in thousands of each part you need, they would be spending more to get the parts. Shipping is expensive (hundreds of dollars if done right) and the chances of your "console" (PC) arriving without damage at all, is not high.
The tech groups on youtube that have done secret shoppers found that most of the shipped PCs had some sort of damage. Sometimes its as easy to fix as just plugging things back in, while other times its physical damage to the motherboard or other items in the PC.
