2nd post: OP apologising
3rd post: Someone saying no because of gross gifs
4th post: Someone saying it will be annoying
5th post: Sarcastically saying it will turn into Myspace, with other bad suggestions
6th post: "good idea"
One of these is not like the others.
That doesnt mean they need to make things even worse by allowing GIFS
2: in the case of 18+ content in the pictures, and again not purposely stepping on toes here, steam really should use a small bit of common sense, and make it so that only accounts that are 18+ years of age are able to view the profile images.
3: Incase number 2 fails, or is not enough because we all know a lot of children lie about their age and such, Steam could also implement a function where when you submit a picture you are required to either check mature content, or no mature content, if you check the No mature Box, and you are using a mature content image, you are instantly subject to suspension, or a permanent ban if you continue to violate the rule. Also if this method does work, and people don't lie about their age, perhaps in profile settings add a function that says "Display Mature Content on profiles?" with that checked, and if people with mature images don't be scumbags and lie to the system, you won't ever see them, and anyone that does lie to the system is subject to a suspension, because if they say No, when it should have been yes, and you report it steam can then take literually 5 seconds and say "Yea he's guilty"
So that is my 2 cents worth, i understand what everyone is saying, but in my personal opinion anyone should be allowed to use whatever they desire, again as long as it isn't breaking any laws, or purposely trying to harm or harass someone on steam.
Or rather its the fact that Valve doesnt want steam to become some sort of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out of principal, regardless of whether or not ppl are okay with seeing porno content.
It has nothing to do with common sense
Yes but if we have to go to human rights, everyone has the right to express themselves, i get what you are talking about, but seeing as people get away with threatning to kill each other in real life, or threatning to hack each others computers, or accounts on a dail basis, or using Racial slurs, religious hate speech, homophobic comments ect, Steam would otherwise just be a hypocrite to that action because of the fact it's in their Online Code of Conduct, and the end user agreement that such acts will result in punnishment, but steam still doesn't enforce it as heavly as they say they do.
Lemme stop you here for a sec
Freedom of speech and such dont apply on a private service
Or else you accept the house rules or you are shown the door.
You have the right to express yourself indeed..as long as its not breaking the guidelines. Sexual content however does, regardless of personal perception.
And how do you know Valve doesnt enforce the rules? They do, just not as fasr likely because they have over 100 million users perhaps and only so much staff member.
I'm referring to the fact that people say and do these things on the comments section of peoples profiles, and two steam is not a private service if ANYONE world wide is allowed to join at any given time at their own leisure.
if it was a private service, you would have to pay for entitlement to use it, so do word that one carefully.
Facebook is not a Private service, Skype is not a private service, neither is steam, it is a public Hub that has a large community.
By definition they ARE with their own
rules.
Anyone can join isnt equal with you can do whatever the f you want.
All of those things - if encountered on the forums are act upon by the moderators. In game-chat you can report them for such behaviour and cases will get investigated. A real-time supervision of chat logs is impossible.
Things happening does not equal things being allowed or even encouraged.
