Steams Censoring Hearts only causes people to evade the filter
I have a word replace app on my browser, and because of Steams Profanity filter, people evade the filter and because of this, they also end up evading the word replace filter that i set up on my browser. Yes, i prefer to replace words instead of seeing a bunch of hearts or asterisks being spammed. Because of Steams Profanity filter, people will also think its okay to just use half of a curse word, usually as a way to evade the filter because for some reason, its okay for a curse word to go around half censored, yet if the full word is used, people wanted blasted with hearts or asterisks.
Another absurd thing is that there are people who curse knowing that they are being censored with hearts, because everyone already knows whats behind the hearts. This seems to be like a morse code method of evading the filters because people are expected to know whats behind the hearts, even kids.
Nobody even takes them seriously which only leads to swearing maniacs evading the filters. Besides, its not like steams profanity filter works everywhere on the site, especially in the artwork section. So Steam, just remove the hearts, its useless, its abused, its silly, and nobody wants it, and it only leads to moderators doing extra work in removing posts which evaded the filters

If people bypass the word filter, then they get banned and shouldn't be here to begin with.
Narcoleptic Marshmallow 2016 年 9 月 16 日 下午 2:19
So your grand solution to make people stop bypassing the word filter is to remove the word filter?
Gwarsbane 2016 年 9 月 16 日 下午 3:08
The filter is there for a reason, its words/urls that Valve does not want on their discussion areas. Removing the filter does not help the situation.
I would like to see the word filter use "I love my pretty pink pony" instead of hearts.

Why not just have an option to turn the filter off, but have it turned on by default, like basically any other chat/discussion board with a wordfilter?

It's not about what you may or may not want to see, it's about discouraging the foul behavior that people who swear a lot tend to have. Also it filters out certain untrustworthy website URLs too.

I mean, the link filter is completely different than the hearts, and in having the hearts on by default it'd still be plenty discouraging.

In my opinion, there are not enough "hearts" and I made a thread here long ago about it...

Because in your comment notifications, as well as their profile names in the forums, the disgusting and offensive words are not filtered out with "hearts", as well as when you quote some posts with hearts in them.

So my suggestion would be to also filter this content as well, therefore adding more "hearts".

I feel like, unless by "disgusting and offensive" you're referring to stuff like the n-word or the word that sounds a lot like "cake", you may be being a bit overzealous, as I'd hardly call your average swear words either of those things.

Not trying to sound rude to you at all, but from the examples you have used here, you have not seen what I have seen. And obviously, I am not going to link any posts here that show more what I am talking about.

But those examples that you used are nothing compared to the filth I am talking about. Those are bad, mind you, but gravy from what I have seen that does not get filtered out with "hearts".

Fair enough, I'd just like the option to not have stuff like the alternates for heck, dang, and doody filtered, considering how infinitesimally minor they are compared to both my examples and your mystery mega-swears.

For comparison Warframe's global chat has a swear filter that, when turned off, unfilters most words but still keeps the n-word and other racial slurs/similarly offensive words filtered.

If the couterparts to the examples that you have used here are the ones I am thinking of, then I have actually seen those not getting "hearts", and see people post them all the time.

My post history is immaculate from "heart" as far as I know, so I won't, of course, test them out here now. But I understand where you are coming from and respect your opinion also. Thanks.

Well, lucky for both of us I have no shame when it comes to swears, so consider this next line a test to see if either "♥♥♥♥" or "♥♥♥♥♥" get filtered. If they don't, I supposed consider this post a request to steam that they -do- get added to the filter.

Evidently, everybody takes this so-called silly filter more seriously than your suggestion. :DEALWITHIT:
