It's not about what you may or may not want to see, it's about discouraging the foul behavior that people who swear a lot tend to have. Also it filters out certain untrustworthy website URLs too.
I mean, the link filter is completely different than the hearts, and in having the hearts on by default it'd still be plenty discouraging.
Because in your comment notifications, as well as their profile names in the forums, the disgusting and offensive words are not filtered out with "hearts", as well as when you quote some posts with hearts in them.
So my suggestion would be to also filter this content as well, therefore adding more "hearts".
I feel like, unless by "disgusting and offensive" you're referring to stuff like the n-word or the word that sounds a lot like "cake", you may be being a bit overzealous, as I'd hardly call your average swear words either of those things.
But those examples that you used are nothing compared to the filth I am talking about. Those are bad, mind you, but gravy from what I have seen that does not get filtered out with "hearts".
Fair enough, I'd just like the option to not have stuff like the alternates for heck, dang, and doody filtered, considering how infinitesimally minor they are compared to both my examples and your mystery mega-swears.
For comparison Warframe's global chat has a swear filter that, when turned off, unfilters most words but still keeps the n-word and other racial slurs/similarly offensive words filtered.
My post history is immaculate from "heart" as far as I know, so I won't, of course, test them out here now. But I understand where you are coming from and respect your opinion also. Thanks.
Well, lucky for both of us I have no shame when it comes to swears, so consider this next line a test to see if either "♥♥♥♥" or "♥♥♥♥♥" get filtered. If they don't, I supposed consider this post a request to steam that they -do- get added to the filter.
