Require users to pass a quiz before they can report posts
It's kinda sad that I need to even say this and it will most likely never be done, but see so many people with a complete failure of understanding the forum rules. Things like thinking that its against the rules to say "if someone is trolling report them".

They somehow think that translates into calling someone a troll, and believes its against the rules.

So perhaps we need a 10-20 question quiz where users have to pick from multiple posts and actually pick what fictional post is or isn't against the rules. Then once they've passed the quiz with 100% they are allowed to use the report post functionality.

That...would actually be pretty nifty.
It'd give a cooldown period to prevent rash emotion fueled reports. Educate people as to the actual rules, and by potentially reducing the number of reports make it easier for the moderators to spread their focus.

Wouldn't recommend you try taking a poke at people to attempt provoking them.

Please do show where I claimed otherwise in this thread, if not i'd kindly ask you to stop manufacturing lies as they violate the rules, hence why a refresher would be helpful.

and to brian, remain calm, it is merely a discussion, is it not?
accusing me of "manufacturing lies" is slanderous, and hypocritical.
it's also inaccurate, i tell no lie, I'm simply asking questions.

and since this thread is about "knowing the rules", please do point to the rule about lying

That's so funny, seriously. That was the purpose of this thread, provoking other users previously banned. Weren't you able to notice that?

Hm what makes you think that this thread is targeting specific users?

No, I think the best way to make things better is people who report a post have to ask me for my opinion on it, and only if I agree with it will it be reported. :P
I am 100% unbiased in this regard. You can all trust me. :P

:devilskiss: Wholly tabula rasa?

haha!

I can be a blank slate, yeah.
Better than some others would be. :P

Do you honestly believe that some people are paid to read reports all day?
Yes, the paid mods.

引用自 Pierce Dalton
It would be interesting to know how many reports they get daily lol...
There was quite a number of daily reports when we still were around, guess that hasn't changed much. Bear in mind it's not just forum reports. There's also UGC and user profile reports.

There are no moderators, there are Steam support agents.
Steam Support and the Steam moderation teams are separate. Paid mods can manage moderation related support tickets, but they neither are nor work as Steam Support agents.

If a person is using more than 5 reports a week, they are likely more toxic than the people they are reporting and they are using the report system not because they want a healthier community but because they want to silence others, AKA report abuse.
I've reported more than 5 people this week who had scam links in their profile names. How is that report abuse?

Either that or they really need a hobby or to do something more productive with their life.
I report more then 5 on a daily basis on casual browsing of the forums
Mostly Spam, wrong forums post, more spam
Once in a while get to report just toxic stuff, but 5 is a really low limit
Also a report means nothing if it dose not have what to stand on

So it dose ont matter how many reports you get, it matters if you did anything to get an action on you, so limiting the reports dose nothing except make it harder to deal with spam and so on, and maybe make people worry and report stuff that break in case there is something more impotent to report later

honestly that is just silly

I suggest Warhammer 40K, if you have the money to go down that rabbit hole.
The lore is great, it's truly a fantastic universe. I recommend learn a bit about Orks. That'll get you hooked.
You'll have a much better time with that than policing the forums.

This suggestion is poorly thought out and utterly pointless.
True but it does make for a fun thought experiment.

Here's what I suggest. Rather than a quiz. A confirmation delay. Say 2 hours after reporting you're sent an email asking you to confirm, with a timed window for response, asay 1 hour.

could you provide proof that the moderators complete all those steps for every report?
Never said they did, hence why you cut off part of my quote that included the etc. Just provided a small sample of some of the standard stuff that goes into responding to any report and using a ticket system.

引用自 Psymon²
additionally, do you have an answer for this question from much earlier?
Nothing to answer, I never once said anything that would remotely require anyone know if a post got reported or not.

The suggestion is for a quiz before a user can USE the report button, nothing at all to do with reporting to anyone else that they reported the post. Perhaps you should actually read posts before you reply to them?

Please do show where I claimed otherwise in this thread, if not i'd kindly ask you to stop manufacturing lies as they violate the rules, hence why a refresher would be helpful.

your OP kinda implies that. Also nobody ever said to report your posts about "trolling" anywhere, so not sure why you think that.

Its just funny that I actually did report your posts calling others "troll" and boom minutes later you make that topic with that weird introduction about how everyone is false about the forum rules :D

now I have to wear my tin foil hat again.

What you're calling "paid mods" are Steam Support members, the distinction is meaningless.

That has nothing to do with the topic. It is a great series, but that's not what this is about.

I wonder why they haven't actually done any automation in regard to changing names upon detection or use attempt. To answer your Q; not report abuse.

Yep which he was unanimously told by everyone who posted that the idea was horrible and made absolutely no sense. One user spamming the forum can generate 15+ reports easily.
Especially without volunteer mods around to clean up the usual messes quickly. I've seen and reported a few spam threads in a single day (one spam of its type is 1 report with the link to all threads), bad malicious content (phishers disguised as video sites, "tournament" phishing sites etc), and numerous piracy links someone put up, which as we all know is something they REALLY don't like having around. Easily was at least 5 in a short period, so let alone weekly reports it's easy to hit 5+ in a short period of time even on a lunch break, let alone traveling on an aircraft.

That is a good example of why it was an awful idea.

Only if its not true, and since you seem unable to post where I supposedly said what you claimed it appears to be correct. After all remember its only slander if its not true.

Thank you for admitting the statement was made up, its sad that some user have to make up stuff because they can't have an actual discussion...

Not really unless you didn't read it. Doesn't refer to anyone knowing anything about knowing when a post is reported.

Well considering my comments broke no rules thanks for proving my point and showing the value in making users read the rules, clearly people don't understand them.

your OP is literally about "trolling"... jesus! just stop. Also how is me reporting a post a sign that you didn't break any rules?
Is like saying your posts that got removed amongst others in the "tougher ban" topic didn't break any rules... obviously I have my theories why that is and they are pretty known by now and of course I know that my reports won't do stuff..

I will not even bother, you stay blocked.. bye

I am not policing the forums
I just use them and I enjoy it more than I enjoyed Warhammer 40K, it's just not my type of game, and not that I even got the time for it
Regardless I think you missed the idea, the posts are taken form the most casual browsing, I had days I went to work, did the 14 wins to get the skin in Overwatch (twice also for my sister) and still got more than 5 reports, and that is beside reports on bad actors on just spam that was my point
That was a terrible suggestion, nothing more for me to add on that
