Sell steam gift cards digitally on Amazon

If your buying from Steam just buy directly instead of buying a digital card from a separate site.

Every storefront? Like it or not Amazon isn't the center of the universe and not everyone runs their business via Amazon. Your hyperbole may not strengthen your argument as much as you think.

And Valve is aware Amazon exists, so one might infer they've made some deliberate decisions there.

It would be nice but I can understand why Steam would rather sell directly, they used to as I ordered some gift cards from them 5 or so years ago.

Its nice for those of us with amazon credit to be able to directly convert that into steam credit, but I understand why they don't offer it.

I have an Amazon Gift card balance.. I don't want to have to buy a gamestop gift card card, and then buy a steam gift card with that gamestop gift card, I just want to buy a steam gift card without seller price gouging.

this is a brilliant example of why i hate gift cards and vouchers.
if people just gave money instead, it'd save so much trouble and waste.

Steam only has the option through their own site, and places they're sold. They're not on amazon because it you're trusting some random 3rd party for non existent oversight that can cause a headache for buyer & seller alike blaming each other for a stolen code.

To avoid this, they don't sell on places like that. It's best to have places with direct control involved.

Buy something else with your balance, or keep saving it.

Valve can allow Amazon be the seller and distributor of Steam gift cards. Problem solved.

Switches too many hands to be realistic especially for such a small item. Not to mention shipped & fulfilled does not equate to delivered by. Often, when switching from amazon to other carriers things tend to go missing, whereas everything an amazon delivery employee is closely tracked.

Wishful thinking doesn't remove headaches from being headaches.

It's still easier for Valve to handle codes directly, so there is ultimate control and ability to help a customer, should anything go wrong.

Not everything needs to be on amazon, physical or digital.

Maybe it's time for Valve to change their system. Right now users regularly complain about the cards not being in the system or the codes being damaged or unreadable. Oh, and stores being out of stock.
Apart from all other implications a physical product has.

PSN and LIVE cards are pretty much only there for scanning and everything is handled digitally and I get my code on the receipt. The other services I bought a gift card for also do it all digital. Steam has been the only scratch card for at least five years.

The only advantage I have from the phsycial card is that I can keep it for account recovery purposes - which few people do because that's something you only get to know once it's too late.
The receipts are thermo printed and vanish over time.

And Valve still controls the whole process if going digital. Even more than now. ... Well, as much as they do now, because they don't. The whole card business is handled by a third party.

Except Valve already does it through other online retailers for digital codes like at Gamestop. Making your comment here wrong.

Presuming this is true, that's a video game store. Not unheard of to work with select stores, still makes it easier for them to have full control and maximized profits by directly doing it from their own site. Not sure how you think that makes my comment "Wrong" as it doesn't remove that fact.

Gift cards are a strictly non-profit service which require integrated EPOS terminals that can be networked with external retailers like Valve. There is absolutely no benefit to either party to do this - Valve would probably have to pay Amazon a service charge per transaction meaning each card is sold at a face value loss and for Amazon, it is an extra headache with no margin to make it viable.

Retailers provide these because they can at least get customers through the door. Having said that though, Valve really do need to improve their supply chain with these but the amount of gift card fraud and scam potential with this concept will always be a concern to both the supplier and retailer.
