I want more free stuff.
Steam doesn't give it's users enough free stuff. In fact, we don't get any free stuff at all from them.

Epic gives you 2 games a week (thanks daddy Sweeney).
GOG gives you a free game almost every sale, mostly old games but more than Valve gives us.
Nintendo lets you trade in Nintendo Coins for games.
I've even gotten multiple free games from Sony over the years! Good games, too! Like the Uncharted trilogy.

Steam on the other hand can't even give us an exclusive skin for playing CSGO for 10 years.
Valve needs to start showing they care about their customers and kick back some of that cheese to the Steam community.

Step up your game Valve!
Give us some Xmas presents in december, free games, coupons, skins.
Send a Steam Deck per month to a random user with more than 1500 games on his/hers account. There's so much you can do to give back to this community that supported you for decades now.

You can get free stuff on Steam though, they gave away quite a few games, yes not much compared to epic, but saying steam doesn't give away free games would be wrong.

Valve does rarely during sales events. The rest are given away by the developer/publisher.

But remember, they pad out their numbers with users who only play CS:GO, DOTA2, TF2, Underlords, and Ricochet. :steammocking:

Like Epic doesn't pad their numbers with their F2P games?

Uhm. Yes, that's exactly the point some users always try to make. "But Epic counts all those Fortnight users into their user numbers, so these numbers are inflated". Hence the reminder that Steam does as well. ;)

I mean, unless you are adamant about only using Steam (then why claim then in the first place?), you have the games, so why not use them?

Because at some point in the future I may and as they are free now why not? For games I already own on other platforms, PC or console, I may feel like revisiting a game in the future [...]

Yeah, no. I get that.
The quote was more of an entry point into "why do some people think they are smart when they claim the free games just to spite Epic".
Getting free stuff for a rainy day I totally get.

There was also that Proof of Purchase hat in TF2
Not a freebie though.

Funny that I've claimed every single free game on EGS and have yet to even download the Epic client.
I personally haven't even bothered to claim them. For the most part I already owned many of the games Epìc has gifted. Also having them on a separate launcher/service means I'll rarely look or play them (It even happens with games I've bought at Origin or Uplay)
Just like I largely didn't claim most of the 'In the House' freebies Origin gave back in its time or transfered Steam games to GOG back when you could.

I'm at a stage where claiming certain stuff for free isn't really worth my time.
That's why people like myself use the GOG 2.0 launcher.

All your games, accounts and friends in one place

Last time I checked steam doesn't count mobile players that don't even own a PC like Epic does....

The funny part is the jokes on them as it kills their attach rate which anyone with the most basic business knowledge knows to look at....

They may be "in one place" but it still just requires the appropriate launcher to run the game. It's also kinda buggy.

Honestly, PlayNite is a much better experience and way more customizable.

Thinking business A isn't moved by the same goals as business B is a road that only leads to dissapointment.

Unfortunately due to human nature, people have the habit of 'falling in love' whatever tool they're most happy with at the moment.

I don't have that many on third party services for Galaxy to be of any benefit. I could simply add them as non-Steam games.
I don't bother about enough as to be worth the work of setting them up.

That makes sense then.

I have quite a few on EA, Ubi, Epic and others, so GOG males it easier for me

Add non steam game works well enough for my Battle.net. Gog, and Origin related stuffs.

Exactly. They number 1. They can afford to kickback some nice stuff to the folks who collectively made them number 1 through years of support.
