they cant rationalize or do proper comparisons, its a sad reality here on steam where all you get is nonsense comments, drama and skirt the line rudeness, insults and w/e they can come up with to make the topic an argument and hope it gets locked in the long run, maybe someone even gets banned.
i agree OP, a game like that doesnt belong on steam and personally i dont think any pornography games belong on steam.
pornography and sexual content are 2 different things, which it seems others in this thread either dont get or purposely ignore, anywho... these pornography games being passed of as "visual novels" or w/e other thing they are claiming to be, seem to be being allowed by steam and i guess steam is hoping parents of today with young children will be responsible... which is laughable to say the least... i wont say all the people, but most in these newer generations dont have a clue about maturity, morality, responsibility, parenting, or the likes... ect.. ect..
I have no interest in adult content, but I'm fine with it being available for other adults who are interested in it. I'm not going to be selfish and ask for it to be removed.
First off, this means you opted in to see this kind of content. It's disabled by default, so at some point you gave your consent to see this content by removing that block.
Also what makes Steam different from, say, satellite TV service? I remember when my son was younger. We were at my parents house, and my son was playing with the remote, flipping through the kid's channels. We thought nothing of it until suddenly hard-core porn was on screen. I've never turned a TV off so quickly. My son asked "What was that?", and I replied "Uh, nothing. Just a scary monster show." I was trying to dissuade him. Bad choice, because my son's eyes lit up and he exclaimed "I want to watch the scary monster show!"
The porn channels were just a couple of guide pages away from the kid's cartoons. My parents didn't have it blocked, because they live by themselves and never needed it.
I didn't get upset at DirecTV for having such content on the same service as the kid's cartoons. In fact, Steam is more secure than that since you have to opt in, while with the satellite service you have to go in and block that stuff manually.
A store near me has a magazine rack. The top shelf has the porn, while the bottom shelf has the kid's activity books and such.
And I'd argue you're being selfish and clueless when you want a store that is for customers aged 13 and over with mostly an adult userbase to cater primarily to children. Children are not the main demographic on Steam, adults are.
Bad parenting is not a reason for a business to shoot themselves in the foot and cut out a revenue stream. Parents have all the available tools to keep their children from seeing such content to begin with.
I happen to enjoy adult games from time to time and I quickly started recognizing a pattern.
1) A lot of these games don't take themselves too seriously which often results in very relaxed, casual and entertaining gameplay.
2) Some of these games DO take themselves seriously and they actually provide something extra besides all the fan service.
3) (this has nothing to do with adult games in general): Most of the times when people cry "foul" about a game they more than often actually have no clue what it's all about and/or... they're simply biased and refuse to acknowledge this. I think (= personal opinion!) they're either really clueless or... I dunno.
Item 3 is important here IMO because... wouldn't you agree that this thread draws a lot of attention to this game? OP is advocating A, triggering a discussion, keeps it going and by doing so achieves B; the exact opposite. If it wasn't for this thread I honestlyl wouldn't have noticed nor actually bought the entire PlayMeow bundle.
So about that....
OP tries to make it sound as if the publisher is trying to utilize rape as some form of sick perverted pleasure for its player base. The fact though is, my previously mentioned point #2 acually applies to this game.
Yes, rape is part of this game because this game tries to showcase the impact this can have on women and it tells a story about a strong woman who fell victim to it but refuses to let that dominate her life and instead actually steps up in order to try and see that justice gets served.
For sure this game is explicit, but it also tries to tell one heck of an impressive story.
In the end it all depends on how you want to deal with it and where you want to focus on. Is the glass half full or half empty?
Or maybe.... what does it tell us about you if you want to cry foul about something yet without bothering to even try to find out what this is really all about? If you check the thread OP has in the game forum you'll notice that he doesn't have the iconic Steam mouse icon next to their name, yet I have since this weekend..
I don't have kids IRL, this was a very specific choice between SO and me. But having said that.. I wouldn't encourage it, but if "my" 14 -16" year old would have played this I'd honestly ask them about it and about how they felt about the way the story played out and I'd made sure that I'd actually approve of their choice to play it.
Because there's a lot more besides the "rape scene" in here.
Heck, by that reasoning I guess iconic movies like Barbarella are also "bad" all of a sudden. Or what about the Asian classic (IMO) "Naked weapon"? Awesome movie IMO.
"What I don't like needs to be censored or removed", that's what this is all about. Suggestion: why not try to press alt-f4 and just go on with your unmerry ways?
</vent>
Like the fact you say this like you aren't jerking off to her getting raped is disgusting but mostly pathetic. We both know what the game is being used for.
How would you know considering that you don't even own the game?
Do you now?
Do you even know what interactive means? Wake up call: It's not about clicking the rape picture away in order to read the rest of the story.
You mean "I" know, you don't even own it so what would you know?
I happen to know for example that in Japan this kind of genre actually IS a form of entertainment and you get to see movies there which only showcase this and nothing more. No morale story, no strong women (the total opposite) and yah...
And with that knowledge I can still side with this game.
Sorry to say, you don't know anything. But I do want to thank you for your last response because it sure took away any doubts I might have had. I saw you're already banned from said game forum even though they're actually very lenient when it comes to people who want to express their disdain for the game.
I think that says enough. Not to mention the fact that you can only sling poor insults against me in your reply vs. actually debunking my claims with actual arguments.
As I said before: the world doesn't evolve around you, you might want to try and realize this fact here and now before it might actually hit you in the face sometimes.
Sometimes Steam is just..... chef kiss*
