Ah yes, the famous porn games Manhunt, Hatred, Carmageddon and Dying Light.
It affects all unrated non-Donwload only titles. Which means all non-German cuts like the original versions of Sleeping Dogs, Dead Rising, Dead Island, Saint's Row, Borderlands, Fallout3.
We are talking about Germany here, not the US. Porn is not that much of an issue.

Doesn't change the facts that NOT taking action is a valid stance if they feel the cost of doing so outweighs the benefits. Germany in of itself is a small portion of steams sales, and the effected games are an even smaller sunset of those sales.
It also sends a message to Germany and it's people to get their government to stop being so restrictive. If you don't like it then talk to your leaders and voice your displeasure.
It also sends a message to Germany and it's people that Valve isn't interested in their business and to go ♥♥♥♥ themselves.
Seriously, this "talk to your government" shtick is ridiculous. For one the laws surrounding this are perfectly fine. Secondly, look at your own country and tell me how that worked out last year.
Of course this is the same people that made developers change nazi's into robots, and change blood from red to green before they would allow a game, so its no surprise they are behind the times.
Worked fine, didn't have any issues buying games at all, unless your trying to derail this thread with off topic political tangents that aren't related to the issue at all, but you know that would be against the rules and would never do that right?
Yep, its called "talk to your government". No one here can say why they are more restrictive then almost every other country in the world. Then again they have a history of it dating back decades, so its not a surprise...
Two people are having a disagreement, a 3rd person comes in - the two in disagreement target the person that gets involved.
Basically the gist of Valve sitting out not getting involved is hinting that people should petition or fix their own governments instead of wanting Valve to magically fix everyone elses problems.
Valve is not peoples parents, guardians, or tyrannical force. They sell games, they let people sell stuff and get a cut. Any government being over-bearing or restrictive is not their issue unless they are obligated to do something, of which they did, temporarily. We had a huge thread just for someone internally to say there's something being worked on.
The End.
Worked just dandy for Valve and most companies operated with competent leadership.
1. Brianwhatevernumber.
A) Since you are from the USA I don't know 'why' exactly you are butting in and even bother about ‚our‘ problems.
I mean - you are welcome to do so but let’s be honest: If we Germans get NSFW or not doesn’t affect you at all.
B) In all your postings you’ve made clear that you don’t know how things work here in Germany. Your posts aren’t helpful at all.
For that we got a nice phrase: Wenn man keine Ahnung hat: Einfach mal Fresse halten! - Viel Spaß beim Übersetzen.
2. Philco7a
A) your comment has nothing to do with the topic at all. I guess it’s just to get attention, he?
Okay, here it is:
You wanna treat? Yeaaaah, that’s a goood boooy, or - girl. I don’t care.
Enough, please seek more attention somewhere else!
B) Your comment is off topic and additionally just false.
I mean - you know things about Germany even I don’t know and I’m living here.
So if you want to point the finger at someone and laugh, please stand in front of a mirror and laugh about yourself.
Seriously, where do people get those kind of informations?!
3: Valve does not bother because Germany is too small
The german market may be smaller than others, but I wouldn’t call it small.
Don’t underestimate the german gamer community. After all the biggest Gamesconvention in the world is our German Gamescom.
4. Finally the important part of the post: age verification
A) YES the credit card is valid because you HAVE to be 18+.
It works perfectly fine on Youtube without breaking the data privacy act in Germany. So why shouldn’t it work on Steam as well?!
B) YES, please implement a age verification system. It can’t be that difficult.
This law ruined various games for me and many others.
And there is another thing: I would love to buy some DLCs from smaller developers to support them, but this option is not possible anymore. (For example a little sweet Otome Game which has now DLCs. I would love to support the person who made it because she programmed it all alone.)
5. Continue asking about age verification
If there are many community members constantly bugging Valve about this issue they have to react in some way.
That way they realize ‚how‘ many germans ‚do‘ care about the content.
And see it that way: In case there are other restrictions in the future they can use the age verification system for every tag or country if they have already developed it.
6. Short-term solution
Splitting the adult content in different sections: harmless intercourse and pornography.
At the moment it’s all the same.
Phew, I’m tired.
I know a few people will attack me for this post, but if you do: please do a few things first:
A) breath in and out
B) turn your brain on
C) think about it twice if you really want to answer and
D) IF you want to - write at least something about the thread topic!
Had no issues translating or reporting your comments so don't worry. As for why i'm posting I have just as much rights as you, in this case probably more as i'm actually following the rules...
Steam has limited staff, and them putting developers on an api or integration for Germany's requirements takes away development of other resources that could instead be used for far greater benefit that benefits more people. It's pretty clear you have no clue what goes into developing an integration with one of the handful of approved age verification companies germany deems valid, its nothing at all like youtube.
In fact considering they haven't bothered doing so, looks like they are proving me right. It's 100% valid for valve to say, screw germany and there restrictions and not bother changing their software because they want to be more restrictive then basically everyone else.
You might not like hearing it, but it appears you need to.
Talk to your government, tell them you don't like their decisions and vote.
So a word of advice, don't comment on stuff when you have no clue what your talking about and are literally going "how hard can it be?" You probably won't listen sadly, but since your now ignored it doesn't matter.
And? They're free to post & respond, this is also an English section not a german section, so anyone speaking it is free to post as they wish, even in any section where they can read/write or translate.
I'm sure people could say the same when you chime in regarding things for Steam
that don't affect you as well.
Again, people can chime in, even if you personally do not like it.
Valve already said something is in the works, but that is Valve Time nor are they obligated to provide solutions right now, when they can just whenever they like by making temporary moves until it's resolved.
You could just ignore them instead of baiting/trolling about.

Seems like the other countries have fairly large ones as well, not to mention some have multiple events a year in different areas catered to consumers, manufacturers, and basically anything involved. E3 for example, is more of an exclusive especially for manufacturers for gaming hardware and their higher executives, influencers, larger content creators etc and some of the public. I think you overestimate the games being purchased in these categories from those within that region.
Try being more constructive and less confrontational.
Like most of the non Germans here?
"Shut up and eat it" and "talk to your government hurrdurr" are neither helpful nor constructive. It's quite frankly nothing but insulting to tell somebody that their problem doesn't matter. And Valve having zero communication about the issue and feeding us a "we're looking into it" non-commital answer without any sign of resolution or communication within a year is showing a clear sign that they don't care. Which is rather sad and not something a few people who regularly whitekngihten Valve and who are not affected by the issue can chime in with their usual stick without irritating those that are affected.
Yes, people like you have every right to post in these threads. However, it's a right. You do not need to excercise it. Especially not if you are not interested in a discussion in the first place and tell people they are put on ignore after telling them how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right you are and they are wrong on every account. That is patronizing as hell.
