You are aware that age verification based on ID (Personalausweis) or credit card does not count as a valid method for age verification in Germany right?

There would be PostID, but that's a Germany only thing. Not sure Valve will bother with supporting that.

Fairly certain the EU and countries in general have laws against personal data collection, not to mention people could use & abuse this to say Steam "never had permission" or otherwise that "We have to give our personal info to Steam to get these games".

Petition the German government, and your local politicians. Steam can't "just do" something that most countries have a problem with.

Your government has made the decision for it's people to not be able to view it, so you should do what your government tell you and trust them with it - they know what is best for you.

Technically, they are pixels on your screen, forming fictional shapes, representing unreal things. There are also games that use clay and other real world materials to form shapes. Those are more realistic shapes, but are also still a representation of artificial things.

You know, if it's such an easy thing to implement, and Valve just isn't doing it, then that probably means it's either not actually that easy, it's not worth it, or both.

I mean, companies usually don't say "Hey, should we do this easy thing so as not to lose a lot of money? No, no I think we shouldn't". If it's a worthwhile endeavor then they'll probably figure something out. If not then you are out of luck. Really though, just search around the internet. You'll find something NSFW soon enough.

There's still a difference between willingly providing information, and general laws against collecting and storing such data especially for International entities. Quite frankly it would be far too easily abused by those that so much as get angry that Steam wont refund them as well.

If you're not happy about the situation, petition your government to change the system, else it will stay as-is, and Valve has already stated something is in the works, but that is in Valve Time.

Take your own advice

Probably why whatever they're working on isn't complete as well. People think "has billion dollars" equates to "can roll something out within the hour" with no bearing knowledge on such subjects.

They don't even need that.
They are governed by the Rundfunkvertrag, which means they can make NSFW content available from 22:00 - 5:00.

Uhm, yes it does. Especially credit cards because you need to be 18 to get one here and that will have to be checked before issuing it.
PostIdent is to prove you are who you claim you are.

Feel free to dismiss yourself from the conversation.

Sure, we should petition the government to change perfectly reasonable laws instead of asking a freaking billion dollar company to implement one of the various available solutions to comply with them besides simply not letting us buy the stuff.

Oh, and as a matter of fact: you still can buy the titles. There is no age check on the checkout or anywhere besides the store page.

China's entire gaming population is a slightly bigger market then the German video game porn market though.....

It still has to be an ACCEPTED form of age vertification for an online business that meets germany's standards. The rules are different for physical vs online.

Also doing nothing is a valid option, i mean the porn market in germany simply might not be worth the hassle to jump thru the hoops to be allowed to sell porn games in germany.

Yeah...
The effort of building an entire client is slightly bigger than the effort of hooking up an API that is already set and done as well

Yep, but again, since it only effects the sales of porn games in Germany Steam knows exactly how much money they are losing

Nope it does not only affect the sale of porn games. It affects anything that requires the age of 18. The reason why most of these games are unavaliable in Germany is because no one can verify whether or not the buyer on Steam is 18 or above.

Dead Rising for starters. There are several stores (including Gamestop and other global players) around here that have such games but they are either locked away (in a different room for example) or they are kept under the counter until you specifically ask for it and show your ID card.

Same applies for general cut and uncut policy around here. Most of the time it is due to the distribution that cannot verify that children cannot see stuff such as torture scenes. So rather than controlling the entire distribution at a million different vectors you basically controll the import. But retailers can provide their own verification policy. That's why it's absolutely possible to get your hands on a copy World at War (DE) or World at War (ROW) at given stores in germany. One lies in the shelves openly viewable and one lies under the counter and requires you to show your ID.

Plus a verification process of that kind can be equally applied to other countries as well - with a little tweaking to adapt to the local IDs. But yeah it is only about germans and their porn games, amirite?

18+ is basically porn, adult games like Wolfenstein or games with excessive violence are unaffected. It's only games with mature sexual content rated AO

https://nichegamer.com/steam-blocks-adult-only-games-in-germany-due-to-insufficient-age-verification/

Hence why as i've pointed out its an incredibly small market
