Why are images not embedded in Steam Forum?

When you post in Steam screenshot and Youtube links in the forum here, the participants can see the image/YT videos without having to click on it.

How come this doesn’t work on imgur and other image hosting sites? This will prevemt members from falling to phishing links because they can see what’s in there.

It’s a discussion forum and should be treated no difference to other forums on the net. People may want to share their game pictures in their game forum or post their memes in Off Topic etc.

Because a chunk of users is not to be trusted with such a feature, it would be used to spam all kind of nasty stuff.

Abuse and badly behaving users aka edgelords is why.

Forums have rules, that should discourage members from posting nude/violent pictures.

Also, Steam have an automated system that checks your thread/artworks before it gets posted so they could do that.

I think it is nice if it is able to share at least from places that are known to moderate their content to some degree, as I don't think Valve wants to try and pass every possible photo into their filter from every source anyone sends to it, just be a lot of work

Besides this really does not help with phishing in any way shape or forum, if it all it's likely to be used for it, if the photo is not clearly marked as a photo from a 3rd party and so on

Because embedding images makes them load regardless of whether you are intending to view them or not... I much prefer text-only, images distract from the discussion, while images might supplement that, they are not necessary - the minimal amount of trusted images is enough.
