Disable Steam Chat currently playing game
I think it's inacceptable that steam is sharing the game or application i am using by default. This is a feature that you have to activate consciously

Did you get caught playing Hunie Pop 2 Double Date?

I am not sure why this would be unacceptable. It's been a thing for game related friends list for decades. Some without the option to disable.

Go invisible in chat.
You can actually show as online in chat while playing a game, if you take your client chat offline and use web chat, I think.

Still, it's silly to need a workaround for this.

You can set your game details to private, which should bypass that.

I don't know if that has changed, but that hides your recent activity on profile anyway.

His account is fully private though,

I think he's upset that the Game Details option isn't Private by default.

In case I am wrong though: go to your profile settings and under privacy change Game Details to private and it will hide what game you are playing while still being logged into Steam Friends. Only other side effect is that it also hides your game hours too I am pretty sure.

EDIT: looks like I was a bit late.

His account is fully private though,

His profile could be set to Friends Only. Also I can confirm it still works. But I interpreted that he's complaining about the setting not being Private by default.

Which doesn't matter because it could be friends only and game details also friends only.

Game details are friends-only by default currently upon account creation which is "enough" anyway. i don't know if this was change in the past 2 years, but that was the case.

His profile is fully private, not friends only. Look for yourself.

Read post #6 again, it doesn't seem as if you understand anything i said.

Again: [if] it was friends only [YOU] nor [me] would not know.

Both of these will resolve that issue, plus if you want to prevent receiving messages during gameplay use "Do Not Disturb" mode;

The options exist OP, it's up to you to choose to utilize them.

I understood just fine. You were incorrect in assuming it was set to friends only when it is in fact, fully private. Everything else is moot.

I'll take that wager.
<privacyState>private</privacyState>

Actually, you can. Just add ?xml=1 behind the profile URL and check the privacystate line. You can distinguish it when it says either "private" or "friendsonly".

Interesting. Though I'm going to guess this has to do with friends seeing something than random people he probably wont ever talk to.

But yea, I don't see it an issue imo.

This actually didn't exist until a bit of GDPR controversy a while ago [2 years ago??]

We're lucky it exists now, as well as being able to hide your friends' list completely.

A better request is to disable friend invites completely seeing how all the 'scams' begin with scammers adding you. But no, don't think that'll ever happen.

Go invisible or offline on friends chat then.

If you are embarrassed about playing a certain game then either don't play it, get it on another account, or don't have the friends chat enabled.
