Add a real-time CLOCK to the overlay (next to the FPS counter)
I would like this so I can keep track of the "meatspace" time I've wasted without having to open the full overlay or look at my wall clock

it could appear right below the FPS indicator or something, the in-game overlay, so I don't have to open the full overlay

That IS the overlay clock.

What you want is an in-game clock which is not the same thing.

So you want a clock added to the overlay but not having to open the overlay where there already is a clock?

Doesn't compute.

Go to your local store, spend 5 or 10 bucks for a clock to sit on your desk right next to the monitor, FAR more handy than having it on the screen.

Yeah, the part of the overlay with the FPS counter, that stays up even when it's "closed"… I thought I was clear about that in the OP; I'll edit it, since apparently I wasn't clear enough

Overwatch has an in-game clock, it's translucent, sits right about where Steam's FPS counter is… it's quite handy. I'd love to see that for all games; it's such a basic amenity that I'm surprised Steam hasn't provided it yet.

(In particular, I don't see how it's "far" more handy to have a clock outside of the area where your eyes are. I'd love the option to have an Overwatch-style clock on all games, at least — those who prefer desk clocks could still buy them.)

It's also implemented by the developers of that game and they made sure it doesn't obfuscate part of the game. Like the FPS counter already does in some. And that ♥♥♥♥ is tiny compared to a clock.

Put the clock right under your monitor. It *is* right were your eyes are. And you can move it around if you need it elsewhere.
Also Steam *has* provided one. Easily accessible in the overlay. Where it doesn't conflict with any game.

I'm annoyed at the achievements already, I would be furious if there was a real time clock in every game I played on Steam. Just use the suggestions already given.

To be fair, not an option to VR users, where a clock would be really useful

Where would you put a clock in VR? There is no corner to put it in. And the corners of your current field of vision are always blurred so that you cannot just look at it and comfortably read it.

Get something with voice activation and response.

"Clock, what time is it?"
"Its time for you to get out of VR and look for yourself, err I mean its 7:56PM"

If I could get one that talked back to me... I would, that would actually be kind of awesome if it insulted me every time I asked what time it was. :)

Accidentally glancing at the time on screen vs remembering to actively ask for it are not the same thing, as millions of late people can attest to. ;)

Little off center, with a transparency level the user can control.
