Animated avatars and borders

I am one of those people that keeps Steam friends open on my desktop all the time. I've used Steam since it was created. Prior I used WON for beta 1 - 1.6 prior to Source and the later HL games.

I've recently removed 2 friends from my friends list because they were using an animated border to their avatar and its extremely annoying to see movement and have to ignore it. I would just close Steam friends or better yet... close Steam entirely and NOT KEEP IT RUNNING ALL THE TIME because really... why does it need to be running all the time? It doesn't. Its always just been convenient because anyone can msg me on Steam friend but now-a-days its on Discord and I don't even NEED Steam friends running all the time.

I'm positive Steam wants me to keep Steam running all the time but then they introduce things that create motion on your desktop and no one wants to look at that all the time. I don't think they've thought this through.

Its like a moving desktop background. Its nice to take a video of it and reference it. It "looks cool" but when you have to look at it all the time is freakin annoying.

Anyone else feel this way? Anyone else find motion in Steam avatars annoying to point of removing people that use them? Anyone else find it annoying to the point of no longer running Friends open on the desktop? Or am I completely alone.

Even if I have Friends open, it's minimized. I don't really see a reason to keep it up all the time. That would be wasting screen space. I'd rather be looking at a game/stream/video in full screen on one monitor and having a browser etc. on the other. The messages do come through and you can tab to them even if you don't keep it up all the time.

You can already disable animated avatars and frames from the Friends List options (Cog in the top right).
Only applies to the Friends List and Chat for now.

I went from triple monitor setup to a CRG9 so screen real estate is not at a premium, otherwise I see where you're coming from. I wouldn't either on a single 1440 or 1080 monitor.
