Forum Signatures

It would be nice if we could add signatures at the bottom of our names/accounts for the discussion threads. Like pictures and etc.

Not necessarily. It's largely report based anyway and people would just report the signature instead of the message or profile content.

Come to think of it, icons and backgrounds are free forum features in the past, now it requires market purchase / card craft / steam points.

Maybe signatures, reputation points and other features will soon follow.

I haven't seen a forum which allowed signatures that didn't turn into a mess. I personally like my forums as minimalistic as possible (I LOVED how SPUF didn't even have avatars, except for Mods and Valve Staff)

To combat abuse it could be that if your signature gets removed, you're permanently banned from using one. Taking a harsh approach from the get go would be best. Discourage the random troll and weed out repeat offenders in one go.

In addition, no signatures for limited accounts. Perhaps add some other limits, like they open up once you're at the very least level 20. Since profile features are already behind levels it wouldn't be that strange to slap a restriction on it.

Spams and abuse can be prevented if signatures became custom titles and made available in points shop. But I also agree that simplicity without signatures is probably the best.

What's the point of a signature if you couldn't write it yourself? It would be pretty useless.

As for the whole abuse and spam thing. You make it limited to profiles after a certain level. That or you make it only available once during a thread and you can pick which post you want. It's like your calling card. I understand minimalism but it's possible to make this not being overly used and abused. Anyways, thanks for all the comments and I do hope I can see this feature implemented. It can work, but only if implemented correctly.

The one thing I haven't seen mentioned as a potential negative, is the mobile view of the forums that a lot of people do use. It would probably ruin the layout unless it was straight turned off for mobile (which is fine I suppose) and maybe cause a lot of extra bandwidth for those with limited data thankyouverymuchstupidgreedyproviders.
