add a little country flag icon to user reviews.
often people complain about unpopulated servers but are in australia.
while the EU servers are fine.

same for cultural issues.

only ofc if the user added his location!

Most (?) people don't have any flag set.

Many other people aren't telling the truth about where they are.

A lot of people have their profile set to private.
A lot of users don't even add their actual location to their profile page.

The problem with the flag set is it's in no way reliable to assume the user's real location. Any user can set any location in their profile.

Geolocation by IP?

Geolocation by IP?

If that's a thing, that would be better off optional, most people don't want their [real] loc displayed.

I would suggest that such a feature only display the country you were in at the time you last played the game before the review. That way the review stays relevant and your specific location is still yours to reveal manually or not via your profile.

Most people don't go to other countries with their computer. So through reviews their location would be revealed, even though they don't want that.

Unless you live in a Micronation, it wouldn't expose enough information to reveal where you live. Nevertheless, all data should be optional.

Yeah that's fair enough.

Tbh a entire country isn't gonna have much effect. Although a opt out button would be useful!

Geolocation by IP?

Yeah, no. My IP has been logged all over the place (I mean, in the general vicinity), all while I was using the same PC and no VPN. It's very inaccurate.

Using the Steam mobile app, my provider has me listed in a state over 250 miles away. This has also caused a forced account lock because support is pretty dumb.

Geolocation by IP?

Can be faked using a VPN.

that's not really that big of a issue though for a review. and is also illegal on the steam store.

Country is also a location and not everybody wants to show that. But yeah, optional would be necessary.

It's fine to use a VPN, it's not allowed to use a VPN to circumvent regional blocks and try purchasing cheaper games.

And if it's not that big of an issue for a review (the correct location), why the thread?
