Individual Game Privacy and Hiding Options
Does it seem odd to anyone else that Steam allows you to hide games in the library only? Knowing why anyone would use that function, it's weird that they don't have settings that allow you to make certain games invisible on your profile entirely. Even if the games are hidden in your library view, they still show up in recently played and in your owned games list that friends can see. You could have your profile on private mode, but that keeps people from being able to see any other games, wishlisted things and whatnot that you may want to be visible. It also just seems obviously sketchy to have a big privacy block on your profile essentially advertising that you have something you want hidden. Steam, PLEASE ADD DISCREET PRIVACY SETTINGS FOR THIS.

So you bought some hentai games and now you don't want people to know you bought them.

Next time make a new Steam account before you buy something you want to keep to yourself or just don't buy it.

People really need to not care what others think about the games they buy and play.

I am ashamed. Yet, in full agreement. Give consumers greater privacy options for individual games on there accounts entirely.

I buy hentai games for achievements *wink wink*

You're wrong that people who want to keep their profile private 'have something to hide'. The best thing i did on Steam was to make my profile private. You need to be less judgemental.

Btw, my account is open to my friends, which you are not my friend. I got rid of the non-friends on all my accounts like fb and steam.

Here's the thing. NOBODY but nobody cares about your profile. I doubt even you do that much, to the extent you probably could go and look at it right now and carefully read everything and note something erroneous, old, or missed off.

So if you're bothered about what others think, unless you're in a weird situation like having draconian parents who are religious zealots who think a game where a woman's ankles are shown is hardcore porn, then I assure you nobody gives a flying ♥♥♥♥.

That's largely why it's not a thing because it's more of a YOU problem.

Usually I'm all for options and empathy, but the line has to be somewhere, and protecting against IMAGINED problems isn't worthwhile frankly.

Here's a suggestion - if you truly are bothered by what you THINK other people might think of your choices, you can either totally hide your account. Or you can simply NOT buy the games in future. Or even as another said, use another account.

If it really bothers you that much, then as it is a YOU problem, perhaps take some time to address yourself and be introspective. Learn not to care so much about what you think other think. You will with age anyway.

Unless as I said, your parents are nutters, in whcih case you have bigger problems to worry about.

People should also be able to shape their online persona by keeping private any aspect of it they want to, no reason needed.

Steam lacks a lot of granularity in regards privacy. Part of it because Valve time, but a big part of it is because Steam is in this weird place where they're at the same time a social site and a game store. And what people play and what people see others play plays a big factor in how games are sold, and letting people shape that will also shape how the store operates.

It's not as much about caring what other people think about you as about me having the power of deciding which parts of my gaming activity I (and not steam) share with others without having to go all-or nothing.

This could be said about any privacy options whatsoever then. Dismiss them all as "you problems", because any desire for privacy is just "imagining" people care.

No thanks.

It could but it would be demonstrably wrong.

If you think you can sweepingly extend say name and adress potentially being there and being less intersting then I'm afraid you need to get out more.

I was merely pointing out the fact that almost everyone doesn;t and I demonstrated why too.
Ah, it’s ‘almost’ everyone now. Will we keep walking that back? When were you appointed spokesman for almost everyone?

Either way, it’s not a good thing to only add options that are for majority use cases. Especially in the domain of privacy, it’s normal and healthy for there to be options that lots of individuals don’t consider useful.

Agreed!

It would be nice to have an option for hiding games that are located in a certain group in the library. Inventory stuff of these games should be hidden as well.

And no, I don't want to make another steam account and additional privacy options doesn't bring any disadvantages to all the haters around here.

This should be added :citranium:

Another thread about this

Will insert my copy paste below

Just don't buy games that you are too embarrassed to have in your library or get a second account for such games.

This would also be abused by people playing/buying games that they should not be playing.

These threads popup all the time and most commonly they want to hide the games from family members.

No reason for kids to be able to hide games from parents or family members they should not be playing. So people clearly benefit from not having this option.

Also if people are to immature to have said games in their library without hiding them then they shouldn't be playing them either.

That's the whole point isn't it?

It really is that simple. If you're that embarrassed by what others think or might think, then maybe adjust your own purchasing habits.

I don't get why this is so hard to fathom?
