Next time make a new Steam account before you buy something you want to keep to yourself or just don't buy it.
Btw, my account is open to my friends, which you are not my friend. I got rid of the non-friends on all my accounts like fb and steam.
So if you're bothered about what others think, unless you're in a weird situation like having draconian parents who are religious zealots who think a game where a woman's ankles are shown is hardcore porn, then I assure you nobody gives a flying ♥♥♥♥.
That's largely why it's not a thing because it's more of a YOU problem.
Usually I'm all for options and empathy, but the line has to be somewhere, and protecting against IMAGINED problems isn't worthwhile frankly.
Here's a suggestion - if you truly are bothered by what you THINK other people might think of your choices, you can either totally hide your account. Or you can simply NOT buy the games in future. Or even as another said, use another account.
If it really bothers you that much, then as it is a YOU problem, perhaps take some time to address yourself and be introspective. Learn not to care so much about what you think other think. You will with age anyway.
Unless as I said, your parents are nutters, in whcih case you have bigger problems to worry about.
Steam lacks a lot of granularity in regards privacy. Part of it because Valve time, but a big part of it is because Steam is in this weird place where they're at the same time a social site and a game store. And what people play and what people see others play plays a big factor in how games are sold, and letting people shape that will also shape how the store operates.
It's not as much about caring what other people think about you as about me having the power of deciding which parts of my gaming activity I (and not steam) share with others without having to go all-or nothing.
No thanks.
If you think you can sweepingly extend say name and adress potentially being there and being less intersting then I'm afraid you need to get out more.
I was merely pointing out the fact that almost everyone doesn;t and I demonstrated why too.
Either way, it’s not a good thing to only add options that are for majority use cases. Especially in the domain of privacy, it’s normal and healthy for there to be options that lots of individuals don’t consider useful.
Agreed!
It would be nice to have an option for hiding games that are located in a certain group in the library. Inventory stuff of these games should be hidden as well.
And no, I don't want to make another steam account and additional privacy options doesn't bring any disadvantages to all the haters around here.
Will insert my copy paste below
Just don't buy games that you are too embarrassed to have in your library or get a second account for such games.
This would also be abused by people playing/buying games that they should not be playing.
These threads popup all the time and most commonly they want to hide the games from family members.
No reason for kids to be able to hide games from parents or family members they should not be playing. So people clearly benefit from not having this option.
Also if people are to immature to have said games in their library without hiding them then they shouldn't be playing them either.
It really is that simple. If you're that embarrassed by what others think or might think, then maybe adjust your own purchasing habits.
I don't get why this is so hard to fathom?
