How to stop targeted harassment

It's easy, just remove the "view post history" for normal steam users and leave it for moderation staff.

I easily just do something like this to harass someone: Go to their picture, hit drop down and view post history THEN I find some random post that makes them look bad and I comment or quote it in another thread.

Being able to view someones post history creates so much room in a thread to harass said person. Everyone reacts differently in different ways in different games. I can comment with alot of emotion in say a shooter genre discussion THEN I can react in a calmer way in a city builder genre discussion..

Because currently I believe I'm being harassed by a user who is doing exactly what I just described above and he is in the right to do so because he is commenting according to the game thread rules and not directly naming or shaming me or directly being toxic. It's a grey area no one cares about it seems.

Spammers and trolls typically are reported during the threads they troll in. I don't know a single person that would go and view their history during an argument about a game and find posts that make him look bad and report him for being a spammer?

Myself and many people do so. Quite a few of them repeatedly change their name to make it harder to identify.

You'd have to disable the entire search feature on steam forums which is as easy as typing your name into it.........

You know I was about to post a pretty well thought out response here because I do believe that Steam should implement a way to private post history, mainly because I, myself, am currently experiencing such a thing that makes me wish I could.

Until I looked closer and realized who the OP of this thread was.

It is the very person, who, on the FF14 forum, accused me of being a "forum troll" because I suggested that FF14 is a story-focused game and if somebody would rather play a sandbox MMO, instead of playing FF14 and lamenting about it not being sandbox, they could just go play a sandbox MMO that already exists. I reported OPs original responses to me, at which point they got deleted by a moderator. They then went through my post history, found a thread that had been dead for literal weeks and was long buried on that forum, just to post more harassing messages at me and try to start arguments.

So yes, I fully agree with OP, there should be a way to disable the post history from being visible, because I'm tired of people like OP abusing post history to harass others. I had one person following me across half a dozen game forums that I had to file support tickets about repeatedly until he got a full community ban, and it should never have gotten to that point IMO

Steam really needs a better way to just block people from going back and viewing post history, it should be something the user and the mods have access to, nobody else needs it, it only is used for harassment purposes in my experience.

Can also just use Steam's own search which finds all of a users posts too....

I'll leave it up to valve then. Chances are low seeing as a forum mod basically disagrees with it. I just want that added personal security. Yes even if it doesn't solve the whole issue of harassment it still gives users the small added barrier against an average 10 year old who's ability to click "view posts" under your picture during a game argument to find stuff about you in the past to use it against you in the present. Which doesn't equal to harassment I guess.

You necroed a dead thread to start an argument with me after stalking through my post history to find something you could start an argument over. That's toxicity. And I find it extremely ironic that I come here to make a post exactly like this over your actions, only to find that YOU were making one already. I already had a paragraph typed out until I saw who posted this thread and went "wait a minute..." Hypocritical, no?

That 10 year old could just as easily type your name in the search box under discussions........

Not in the least as you can't explain how this would stop someone from simply typing your name into steam search unless you want to also remove the ability for users to search discussion posts......
