Yep, it makes no sense to me when you can left-click a game to see it's details, then click Play, why not leave the right-click, Play as it was? If it ain't broke...
Previously steam was pretty much like "i am not in your face if you don't want me to"...but since the launcher war with Epic started Valve seems to believe becoming more like facebook and instagram is a good thing.
I bet they will remove the right-lick play button within a couple fo months so that you simply cannot circumvent that info page and see all this update, event, ads and community non-sense. Its good they have streamlined this a bit, but please don't force this on us on every game launch. Its just one left click away. No need to make this mandatory!
Additionally: i have some extra programs like track-ir, Voiceattack etc. that i need to start when playing simulators. Beforehand i could simply right-click on every icon and click play. Now i have to click "back" multiple times just to start those programs. This is very cumbersome and a waste of time. I just counted for my fightsim: there i have 6 additional programs that i need to start, i have added these as non steam games so i can start up everything from one window.
I just noticed that the latest update broke the correct dection of status of those extrenal programs. Once i click on start, the steam client is not longer able to close those programs nor to detect whether i have closed them externally already if i start more than one during a play session.
Just reported this to the support staff. Hopefully they at least suggest to the steam client dev team to make this optional. Its funny; in Valves effort to combat the EGS, they make choices that alienate me more and more.
I didn't think about this, that's a very good point and understandably cumbersome. Luckily my flight sims aren't on Steam but this would certainly put me off going down that route.
You can also start the game with double left clicking.
So nothing has changed.
If we are talking about the icons on the shelves, then double clicking doesn't start the game. The first click (no matter how fast, and I tried as fast as I could) only opens the game's library page.
Isn't the issue that it changes to the game's library page (even if the game is started) instead of staying in the library?
I don't think anyone said the game was not starting
Double click only seem to work on the bar, to the left of the shelves.
Ideally when clicking on a games cover in the library once the game would star, and a double click would open the info page.
True because it just goes to the library view. But you can always just right click and select play on the shelves game.
Okay then this is quite literally the silliest first world problems.
Someone is annoyed when he start his game that it takes him to the library view while starting the game.
I can not think of a more petty reason to be annoyed. Is the person not planning to play the game? Was he planning to stare at the Home screen?
I actually thought some feature of value was removed but nope, people complain about the tiniest problems imaginable.
And when you close the game, you have to click to go back to the library view, out of the game's page. I can see people having an issue with that. Some would rather go back to their library so they can go to another game.
Seems it used to not take you to the game's page when you right click then went to play (never tried, so don't know myself) so something simply doesn't work as it used to.
Gaming in general, will always be a first world issue and silly, compared to places where getting enough food to live is hard to do. One first world problem isn't really any more silly then another. imho.
But this is just peak first world problems. It's just too silly.
Even IF the game will be on that game detail screen I could just so easily double click on the next game I want to play on my handy Left list of games.
If it didn't start the game then that would actually be an issue worth fixing. I wouldn't have noticed this as I often stare at my library and think on what I should be playing.
Nothing of value was lost. Quite literally.
I'm sorry but we're talking about the most tiniest problem you could ever have with the client.
Depends on how your have your client set up. Some may have to search though their library on the left, others may want a direct access to their recently played games (something you can't have on the left column).
And is really is about as silly and as much a first world problem as the argument of it, it's self.
But still a problem, hence one of the reasons for these forums.
