Notepad in game trough "shift+tab"
I sometimes wish that steam could have a notebook system, where I can write down things that i need to remember. Or maby even draw a shabby map to look at if need be.

It should be esey to locate in the "shift+tab" menu. With different notes for different games. Also maybe there could be a tab system with in the notepad to make different notes in the same game.

Not true. This idea was suggested before and it had quite a bit support.

This would be useful for the Steam Deck as well as Big Picture Mode in the future.

Quite a few would, this is one of those suggestions that comes up fairly often and has been for really as long as the overlay has been around.

Just because you won't doesn't mean nobody else will. I for one think this would be a very useful feature.

Gabe! Get on it!

I understand. What is possible is to change the web address of your Steam overlay's web browser's home page, to a web address of an online text editor, then you may also accomplish that goal. Sort of.

am curious.
are there reasons alt+tab out of the game to use an existing notepad/paint/etc isn't sufficient?

As mentioned in that other thread, some games hate alt-tabbing.

I do think using some kind of browser-based way of taking notes within Steam's own built in browser might be a solution though. Or just, you know, pad of paper and a pencil on your desk. That's still a thing.

other thread??

do those games have a "borderless" mode?
that can make the alt+tabbing much less jarring, mostly to the point of seamless.

Try the search. Been asked for a few times over the years. I'll say the same as I did in those threads. pen + paper, Notes on a phone/tablet. That way you'd keep your game visible and would have access to your notes without Steam loaded and even with your computer off.

Why is it that people constantly want Valve to do everything? Implement better music player, implement discord like chat, implement this or that and so on.

Been here plenty. Often seen and even commented on your suggestions for improvements.

I'll visit where I want. I'll also comment where I want....provided I'm not banned, obviously. And if you noticed I gave the OP valid suggestions as to what they could use instead and how they'd be more beneficial too.

I could say if you don't like/agree with my comment why bother quoting me and commenting. But that's a you response. I'm not about to tell someone NOT to comment because that is their right to so

Do you even understand the concept of suggestions...? Valve checks these and see which sound good and they try to implement it. This is how we improve things: communication.
