but
so... you insist you can say whatever you want, but you attack people for doing the same???
hashtag oops this is getting derailed.
+1 to OP suggestion for extra features in the overlay.
But recommend setting games to "borderless" and using other apps.
Suggestions are just that suggestions. Just because a person or persons have and voice them does not mean they a good/bad/workable. It also does not mean they are exempt from other users criticism.
Every idea/suggestion in human existence has to be evaluated. That includes being assessed for weaknesses, weighing up if the costs warrants it's benefits along with if demand for the suggestions makes it worth while.
People need to understand just because you or a few have an idea does NOT mean it's a good idea or that anyone against it can't critic it. Same goes for someone indifferent to it. I really don't see the point when there are already better options out there. I'm not against the idea. If Valve did implement some form of notepad i wouldn't be using something so limiting so it really wouldn't bother me.
You clearly ignored the first part of my comment and went to the bottom part to pick at because I don't agree with you.
Chances are as this has NOT been implemented after multiple suggestions over the years it's entirely likely it won't be implemented or at the very least it's a low priority so wouldn't be implemented any time soon.
Also as I stated there already exists multiple options that do what is suggested and they have added benefits when not tied to Steam
When did I attack someone? I commented and provided real world alternatives and why they are better.
Then I asked a question. I even used a ? to make that clear. You started derailing the thread because I voiced an opinion different to the OP and your own. I did not attack anyone. Your attacking me for voicing a completely valid opinion because YOU don't like it
Notice I didn't say Valve don't do this? I merely voiced a few alternative options and benefit of them being outside Steam. Then asked a question. A question that hasn't been answered or even commented on.
It's a genuine question. I'm actually interested why users want Valve to implement all these new features that are already available outside Steam. Makes me think of Reminds me of "A jack of all trades is a master of none"
Edit, crossed out poor wording for better clarification on what I meant
Not everyone uses every feature of Steam, but they are still there.
The question "Do you understand the concept of a discussion forum" can be asked as well then. Suggestions get discussed by users, that's the purpose of the subforum. That can mean people of all strokes, so those who support an idea, those who question an idea, etc. It's not a place for blogs where people only get yes-men.
In the end it doesn't actually matter whether people agree or disagree on a subject (or how many people agree/disagree), Valve always goes their own route and gets from these threads whatever it is they find interesting. Or not interesting, since many things that get suggested never actually get implemented.
Usually, games that require notepads or drawings (like 999/VLR) have it built into the game by the devs. In fact: It would be nice to see more devs implement this into puzzle/strategy games.
People already complain about stuff like "Denuvo" becoming a waste of resources, last thing we need is reason to make people feel Steam is becoming bloatware.
Regarding the methods I use right now. I use several methods of note keeping. I alt + tab, I write in a notebook IRL and i also google things each time i play and keep the tab with the information open. All of these have one or more flaws.
Alt + tab is great .. if the game alows it. I find that some games either crash or freeze when tabbing out of a game. One of the ways to solve this is playing in borderless window, but not all games allow this. I also personally find it quite abrasive and that it breaks my immersion.
Keeping a notebook IRL to write in is kinda nice. You get to put down the information you want and also get to doodle. The problem with a notebook is that is limited to the information you put in. For instance if you google up a map of a world you will either have to make a copy of the world or draw it.
Googling things and writing down in the ingame browser is in my opinion the best solution. You can open tabs with the information you need and use google drive to put in notes. However you will need to open all these tabs again every time you play because every time you close the game all the tabs dissapear. Having done it for a while it becomes a pain in the butt to do.
I also find that typing using my keyboard goes alot faster. I can also copy and paste things if they get too long.
That's very smart. Have never tohught about that. I'm gonna try that.
We do not necessarily want valve to do everything. It's just that steam is their creation and that we have anything to implement the things that we would like to see. So the only option we have left is to ask them if it's something they can do. :)
I'm not necessarily thinking about games like that. It could be notes for example Skyrim, if I'm doing rp, what I should remember about my character or where I'm heading and what is my goal. It could be for DS, what I need remember about each season, what I need to collect. These games do not have a notepad function or a drawing function.
If you don't want to waste resorces would it not be better to implament a notepad function in steam that alows the user to use the notepad in the overlay instead of every game company to create a notepad system in every game they make?
Also I think that if it's a function that works for every type of game and there are people who use it. It wont be a waste of reasorces. Instead it would become a selling point for steam.
Fair enough. Appreciate the answer.
It would be really useful for a lot of games in which you have a lot of stuff to keep track of.
