And what exactly would be the point of me purchasing a soundtrack so other people get blasted by it? Apart from me being deliberately annoying?
I don't know about you, but I like to listen to music *I* like. And I have no need to get that interrupted by whatever it is you like. Not for one second.
As I said earlier: there is a reason why every browser nowdays includes a mute-function on the tab level to quickly identify and mute tabs that have autoplay.
Also music and videos buffer, so even if I deactivate it ASAP it will still have downloaded more than I wanted to. With some users already using way to much bandwidth with their "art" I really can do without another few MB for a freaking profile to load.
So not having it on autoplay is an absolute must.
And barely anyone would be interested enough to activate it. You can achieve the very same by posting a soundcloud or bandcamp or whatever link.
Oh no! Here comes the negative brigade!
That argument could be an argument against every single profile feature. The only difference being that it's your eyes being "blasted". You likely find anime boobies offensive, but that's what you'll see if you visit my profile.
Steam is giving more and more options for users to customize their profiles, people find customization fun so this is possibly/likely coming. If you don't want your ears being blasted, just keep your volume at a comfortable level. If that's not enough, don't visit other's profiles. Especially mine, since you'd get BFG division.

Try it. I think you will love it.
I did this neat trick that i'll share with you.
I didn't click it.
And you have this freedom, too.
Besides, you already get "blasted" every time you click on a games' store page unless you have Steam's media volume all the way down. Since Steam remembers your volume settings, even after a restart, profile music could simply match that setting so that sensitive people like yourself wouldn't have to go through that ordeal.
You're missing out an awesome experience of a time you obviously have missed.
Also I don't get blasted at store pages. I don't have videos on autoplay.
If you think I am "sensitive" and it's an "ordeal", again: EVERY. browser. has an option to quickly shut down such nusiances. Some modern broswers even completely ignore the autoplay attribute. And if not the browser it's the adblocker. Guess people like me a rare brood, indeed.
So again: if you have to activate it, what's the point? As you have just proven, how many people would play it? After a novelty period, no one.
