Game Achievement progression tied to Account Level XP
Possibly like something Xbox utilizes with points or whatever they are called. By earning achievements in steam games, you earn a tiny bit of of account xp, and by getting all achievements in a game, you can get a good amount of account xp. This would get some people to play games for longer than they normally do, as grinding the game would plug in more play time.

SAM is the main reason why achievements don't grant XP.

How so?

Have an achievement level seperate from the "how much moneyz you paid us" level and people would be happy.
Bonus points for finding a way to limit or even nullify achievement spam's influence on that. Like giving points based on rarity and total number of achievement of a game.

That would just make the SAM problem even worse. SAM is Steam Achievement Manager, which you can use to give yourself any achievements. Having a system tied to achievements would be useless due to this.

Again: so what?
You inflate a meaningless number. Just like you do now.

And its not like you even need SAM to do this. Just kload a save file from someone else. or you know. The Devmode console that exists in most games these days.. Achievements are supposed to be theirf own reward...

No, we don't need a reward for getting a reward, which as mentioned, that is what achievements are, they are rewards.

... and yet Sony just reworked their trophy level system for people to level up more quickly ...
It's almost like people get motivation out of seeing numbers rise.

And in WoW you get pets, mounts, toys, and titles for obtaining achievements. Or banner decorations in Diablo III.
It's almost like people like to get a reward besides the achievement.

If *you* don't need a reward, feel free to ignore it. Judging by the fact that this topic continues to come up, others clearly want something more than what we have now.

Hell people said the same thing about getting a loyalty bonus for buying on Steam and now we have the points store.

Sony has a much more closed system than Steam has because Sony's system is on a closed hardware system, where as Steam is not. And if they want to give rewards for getting rewards thats 100% up to them, but I think giving people rewards for getting rewards is dumb.

Wow and diablow are 100% up to to blizzard if they want to do that.

I think the loyalty points is also a dumb idea, specially adding in the dumb awards badge stuff that people have been begging for that thankfully the mods have been able to keep up with as I don't see many people begging for it now. We also now see people making posts asking for Valve to let us buy games with the points.

Also if you noticed what I said, I said, we don't NEED rewards for getting rewards. If Valve wants to do it, fine, its up to them, just that with the open system of PCs its going to be impossible for Valve to actually protect against people using programs like SAM or doing other things to get the achievements. It will be just like cheats, it will be an endless cycle.

At least with anti-cheats it makes sense to keep working on it as it ruins other peoples fun chasing them away from buying the game. Where as cheating to get rewards for rewards only ruins your own fun so why should Valve bother to put in a system like that.

And as mentioned many times before, just because a topic continues to come up, doesn't mean its a good idea or should ever see the light of day or even have a developer bother to look at it.

People would farm points just by using SAM and not actually put in the effort of getting the achievements (and by extension points) legitimately. It'd be giving a reward for basically doing nothing, which we don't need to be encouraging.

Speaking of giving rewards for nothing. haven't you seen the avalanche of copypaste meme reviews and "guides" since the inception of steam points and awards? We don't need that either but Valve made the system anyway. It's almost like they don't care about the quality of user generated content as long as money is spent.

Achievement system doesn't affect their wallets so it's left forgotten and barely working.

I would like something like this too, man.

The problem is that people can easily download SAM (Steam Achievement Manager) or just go in achievement servers (like on Team Fortress 2).
...and consider Workshop maps too, like we've seen on Starbound and the embarrassing Summer Sale 2019 level-up exploit.
In my opinion, something like this, would hugely damage community-servers or mods.

Something like this, tho, is on Uplay and Origin, but both Ubisoft's or EA's games are barely moddable.

I hate badges and levels too as right now, I crafted a bunch of badges a lot of time ago and I would like to remove them (and so lower-down the level) since they don't meet my tastes anymore.
