Suggestion: to be able to mark a game as Private
with more erotic games coming on steam and other content that I like to enjoy in private.

I suggest a "Private" tag that I can set, maybe in the properties part when I right click a game in my library

this way Steam knows not to broadcast to anyone on my friend list that I am playing that game.

at the same time, I like for steam not to show that I own the game to my friends if they happen to look at the same game on the store page.

I say nay!
Just don't buy games that you are too embarrassed to have in you library or get a second account for such games.

how would it affect you, that the OP decides to hide a game?

What is it with people buying games and than being embarressed about them or not wanting anyone to know?

I don't have any of these games, but everybody closes the door when they go to the toilet, despite it being entirely natural and what literally every person does. Humans, and other animals, crave privacy, it might not be considered rational but it's a very real desire.
T-pose on your friends to assert your dominance.

Then they should just set up a second account for the smut games

There is less chance of something going wrong than owning them on your main account with your full friendlist and just hiding them

It is more private

Honestly, I think this will eventually, in Valve time, happen. I don't really see a need for it myself, but I just have a hunch.

It might happen. But it will still be subject to any ♥♥♥♥ ups Valve does. Look at the issue with libraries earlier today (or late evening, depending where you are). What happens if this feature will be affected?

Seriously, second account. Works perfect. Works now.

I do agree with op since the library upgrade our privacy is so little with our friends these days.
Use an alternate account. Buy games you wish to be private away from everyone log into that account and buy games for that account only.
The only other method currently available to us is in chat&friends. Expand the arrow next to yur name, we can go invisible our friends cannot see our activity. The game remains in our library. The play time still counts though.
An extra addition is the Do not Disturb the last one.
There is also hide the game from your friends in edit profile who can see your games and game activity.
Click Edit Profile button, which is on the right side of the page
This will help edit profile
Click on ‘My Privacy Settings ,
Adjust the privacy settings, as this allows you to control what other people can and cannot see

while the OP wants it to hide "erotic" games, the need for it does not necessarily have to only be for that.
the OP did not ask for a workaround, it is a suggestion for valve to implement a privacy feature. somehow people feel like they need to be the judge of that idea and say "nay" or wait you can just use a second account..
how about you explain why you say no? I just don't see how me hiding a game like skyrim would affect any one of the naysayers but evidently it somehow does.
perhaps they feel like they own the right to know what i play? yet they seem perfectly fine by the idea one can hide their playtime.. it makes no sense to me why people are even saying no to a suggestion.

So people offering a working solution for the problem are now bad. :lunar2019deadpanpig:
Got you.

It will happen, on Valve time.

"Second account"? You know, that just lets the scammers in.

this is the Suggestions / Ideas section. I can understand that you lack the comprehension of what that means, however i can't help you with that.

You need to understand, that the OP probably doesn't need a workaround. One can safely assume, the OP already owns these games on the current account.
a workarounds won't really help the OP.
perhaps you could gift the games he already bought on the new account for this workaround.

How? Opposed to ... you know any other idea a scammer can come up with. A private list is just as bad if it gets leaked and opens you up to blackmail. So is it a reason not to implement it?

I have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea why you have a hard on for me. But stop your patronizing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I am fed up with it. If you have problem, tell me.

And as usual:
this is a DISCUSSION board, not a freaking drop box. That's where users can discuss an idea/suggeation. A discussion involves exchange of different point of views and finding solutions for problems. Not "+1"-ing everything and yay-saying.

So pointing out there is a solution that works out of the box and is not subject to any ♥♥♥♥-ups of Valve for implementation or - like just happened - at maintenance.
Valve might implement it. But it will always be an inferior solution.
