8mb gif limit...
Guys we have 2019 and the limit is still stuck at 8mb. For profile designers like me, it's so terrible. Why don't you make it at least 10-12mb? I usually have to optimize my artwork and, in addition, get rid of a lot of effects/lower the quality. The gifs simply look terrible.

I mean is it fair to have a profile take up potentially hundreds of MB just to load all these animated GIFs?

For some people it might seem useless, but I cannot imagine my profile without such. Take a look at my Deathsworn Katarina, you can see the pixels and overall this artwork could've been wayyyyyy better (if only not the limit of course...)

My gifs usually weight 20mb, so optimizing them a bit wouldn't be a problem, but to 8mb... it's another story.

Like these 2-4 mb would change anything...

Mbs stack themselves quite fast.

And then there's the slippery slope of never having enough. If an 8Mb gif is not enough, 10-12 won't likely cut it either. Then people would complain they can't upload 25Mb gifs because reasons.

After optimization my gifs always take up to 12mb, it would change a lot.

Lets say its 12mb. Now lets say 1% of the active steam user base also uploads 1 single 12mb animated gif.

There are around 150 million active user accounts, so 1% of that is 1.5 million. Now times that 12mb by 1.5 million and you get 18 million megabytes. Thats 18,000 terabytes.

Now thats just (1) 12mb gif for 1% of the active population. What if they want 2, or 3 or 15....

So no, in fact I wish Valve would actually lower the size of files they can upload. There are many people who actually have to pay for everything they download, and thats not including mobile users.

Also you say 2-4 megs don't change much, well the next person will say another 2-4 megs is not much, and then the person after that will say 2-4 megs is not much... and it just keeps getting larger and larger

this isn't myspace or geocities...

Your profile doesn't need to be fully animated particularly not with a batch of gifs that have that size.

I don’t really think having dozens of 20MB animated gifs makes your profile “better”

You can do more, and better, with less

It definitely makes my proilfe outstanding. As I said, some people might not need it and it can be useless for them, indeed, but nobody can say my profile is horrible.

After all you have these tools to make use of them. Nobody said it must be fully animated, this is the problem. I put glowing animation and just because of THIS ONE animation I'm basically unable to upload my gif.

Guys, we have 2019. Stop using GIF.

No It doesn't. All I can think of if I see a profile like yours is "Uh ... yet another dude who watched an After Effects tutorial."

And yes, I can totally say it's horribly unoriginal. A PC character art with some flame effect. Wowzer. I guess at least it's not anime.

Boy, I can do aaaaaaa lot, do you get it? This limit makes me unable to do what I want, that's exactly it. If you know how to loop, crop and add stuff like that, then go ahead and show me. It indeed is nothing special, and still so many people can't manage to do that. At least I use my own work, so yeah, it is original. If for you mixing every possible color and first better stuff you can put is nice, then it's your opinion, have fun.

I'll have to vote a no to this, if you need to showcase your "artwork" get a blog or use one of the services that is made for such things.
I really hope Valve would remove the possibilities for gifanims completely.
