Most of them are F2P, so there is no real benefit here for Steam to keep inventory.
Although Gaben is a benevolent godfather, Valve still needs to make money.
It's extra work for little to no gain.
Epic Games tried to evade the Google Play Store by making Fortnite a sideload-only game and failed miserably. An alt store will face similar issues. There are alternative store apps, but they aren't user-friendly to setup and use due to the restrictions set in the Android OS.
Regarding Apple/iOS - are you joking?
Google actually does. Samsungs come pre-installed with the Galaxy Store. The Amazon Appstore exists since forever. F-Droid for free and open source apps. SlideMe on alternative OS.
It's Apple with the closed environment.
Since nothing you buy on Steam is usable on mobile in the first place, there is zero incentive to move into the mobile market.
How do you suggest they go about other OSes on mobile? Those all require their own versions of games... it's not like you just copy/paste an iOS/Android app onto some new OS.
