Not really. At least not if the front page of the store is full of games you do not own.
Agree, i like it this way. Any other way and it would kinda devalue the community market a lot. It already does a little.
That said, i admit i was at first really excited because there's an "expensive-ish" Grow Up emoticon i really want, and haven't wanted to pay for... and thought i could get it off the Point Store. But... since i do not own Grow Up, i cannot. So... i gotta decide if i want to buy Grow Up to get the emoticon for "free" from the Point Store... or, if i want to just pay another player on the Community Market for the emoticon so i don't have to buy the game.
i think this is a fair choice to have people make!
You don't have to shop from the main Point Store page tho? You can use the Search function to single out games you own and stuff like that.
The main Point Store page is probably to show off cool things from games to encourage people to buy the game ^.^ Which makes sense. It helps Devs/Pubs. As Devs/Pubs are also customers of Steam/Valve, so it makes sense to cater to their needs or promoting their stuff too.
But i do understand it can be sad to see a cool thing from a game you don't own, and want it! Heheh... and then wonder if you should buy the game just to get the neat Point Store item!
Even though it's all games I don't own on the frontpage of the points store, nothing that is directly showcased is actually stuff I cannot buy, so I don't see the issue with that.
I don't think any of this stuff is cool. Or needed. It might be seen as an incentive for some, but frankly "buy this 60 bucks game to be able to get this penny products" is not a marketing lesson I received. There are exactly two games on the main pages that I "own". DOTA 2 and CS:GO. Because they are free. Never played any of them nor want to. The page is not even remotely personalized based on what I see on the actual store.
So instead of showing me stuff I can actually purchase the main page is completly useless for me and I need to use the abyssmal navigation to find something I might be interested in.
Oh well, not like Valve has any shining example of good user experience anywhere.
Now that's some useful information after all that reading of "you need to own the game".
Does this have ANY bearing on this thread?
If you have a game on Origin, play it from Origin. That's your perk. If you want something from Steam, you have to own it on Steam. That's ... really remarkably simple, innit?
I don't want to play 2 hours of Smite just to get a Yggdrasill background!!!!
