The steam store, and how useless genre filters have become.
I cant be the only person who has noticed how utterly retarded the steam store has become. Countless Games are labeled under each and every imaginable combination of genre making it very difficult to filter out things you dont want to see.

I'll give an example, I looked into Strategy not five minutes ago and the top of the New and trending list... Kindergarten. Not Civilization, or Age of Empires, Hearts of Iron, Not even chess. But Kindergarten!

My brain is litterly liquifying itself trying to figure out how the hell anyone could claim that there is any Scrap of strategic gameplay in a Point & click Adventure game.

But it dosent end there. You can look into litterly any genre in the store page and I can guarantee that at least one item on the front page does not belong.

I understand people want to get their product the most visibility possible but this is honestly getting absurd. As I said its becoming more and more difficult to find things you might actually be interested in purchasing. For me at least its actually getting to the point that its frustrating and seriously putting me off from even looking at the store page anymore.

I know it would be a massive task but someone or some few really aught to go through and clean up all the mislabled games in the steam store.

user generated tags can be reported if they are wrongly applied.

It isnt just user generated tags that are the problem. Though they are themselves a massive problem and I do reprot them whenever I notice them.

Various games, such as the example I provided, are advertised/Listed in completely wrong sections of of the store.

That's not really separate, it's the same issue. The store runs on tags. If a game is tagged as something, then it's in that "section".

You're already aware you can flag tags to "vote" in this, and who knows, maybe that will be sufficient in this case eventually - the game's only new, after all, people's opinions on tags won't have settled yet. But in general, the nature of voting is that it isn't always going to go your way. Ultimately, there are always going to be some genre assignments you don't agree with.

Like other things like "action" and "adventure", "strategy" is just a really broad term. So if you want to find particular types of things within that domain, my suggestion would be to supplement your searches with some more narrow tags, for example "4X", "RTS", "Turn-based", "Turn-based strategy", "grand strategy".

Kindergarten isn't listed as a strategy game at all. It is the user tag that put it there.

The genre on the game is Adventure, Indie.

I suggest reporting the tag. I know I did, along with family friendly.

For me the tags are useless because of how restricted they are. So many tags are banned. Walking Simulator being the first that comes to mind but I recall some other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones being banned to. I just can't remember exactly what.

'Walking Simulator' isn't banned.

So they removed the ban then? It was banned back in the day *goes to check* well I'll be, they DID unban it. I'm curious as to whether or not the other(appropriate) tags are banned still.
Edit: Seems that "mobile port" is a tag that was previously banned and I don't see the tag on any of the games.

Then ban "negative" tags. Walking Simulator is deliberately selected by some developers as an accurate representation of their game. You would be better off tagging some behaviour that mobile ports share than the term mobile port itself.

The whole tag system is flawed. There really needs to be some other way to handle all of this. Trying to filter games on the Store has become a real chore lately what with all the games with incorrectly applied tags or games that are completely missing tags that they should have (VR being the most problematic one). The amount of times I've had to hit 'Not Interested' on a VR game (despite having that tag filtered out everywhere) is ridiculous. There are games coming out with VR IN THE TITLE and the 'Requires a virtual reality headset' on the store page that STILL don't have the VR tag listed, making the filters USELESS.

Relying on users to apply tags is not working. Valve needs to change this whole system.
This is a legitimate problem.

Literally every single game that is remotely related to anime is tagged as "nudity" just because the game shows off a bit of underarm of a cm of cleavage. So when I finally find an anime game with actual uncensored nudity in it, my dad is standing directly behind me when the main character's shirt and bra is suddenly ripped off and her boobs burst out like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jack in the box.

This was back in December last year, so at the time the full screen pictures of the girls hadn't been implemented, and the game had a totally different thumbnail. So there was no way to tell the game would have nudity in it other than the community created tags, but if you actually look at what games are listed as having nudity in it, everything from Tekken 7 to Outlast 2 to Bayonetta to Bulletstorm to Vikings: Wolves of Midgard to Uno are listed as having nudity.

The tagging system doesn't work because Steam thought it would be a good idea to make the tags be set by the Steam Users, who mostly consist of children, overgrown children, and prudes who think that showing off a cm of cleavage is disgusting and should be banned.

Official listing or usertags this is still an issue. Even if every single one of us that has posted in this thread went through and flagged every inapproprate usertag, something I woudent expect even from the most Obsessive compuslive of mankind, it still wouldent fix the issue.

Personally speaking i find the store page to be stupidly frustrating to use because of this. Personal problems I know but I figured i cant be the only one who has issues with it and a store that was less frustrating for even a minority of people would be betterf or Steam in the long run.

On the topic of nudity on Steam, MOST games don't have nudity even though the game has nudity on other sites but the nudity can be added by implementing an optional 18+ patch that's supplied by the developer. So that may be the case with some of the games that have nudity as a tag. Still doesn't explain why uno, Tekken, Outlast 2, Bayonetta, etc. have it. I honestly wish that implementing such optional patches were easier. Most of the time you have to go to a site off Steam the developer links to, download some files and then replace the files in your Steam directory.
