System of recommendations in steam is awful
Literally 99 percent of games that steam suggest is informational trash for me. I am interested only in 2-3 genres but i cant adjust recommedations by genre. Is there any options for this?

Try Steam Labs first... https://store.steampowered.com/labs/

I love the steam labs, it's one of the best things added to the platform for a whole year now.
There are 2 other options...
  • Hunt for a "Any more games like this" thread in your fave forum
  • Follow a curator, or look at your friends games lists for ideas
hope that helps.

The system tells you exactly why you're being recommended each game. Look into it to know why the recommendations don't adjust to your tastes.

It also rates highly your recent play time to recommend similar games.

If you are only interested in selected genres, why not look at these genres instead of going through the whole catalogue?

cause i need to do many additional clicks for this.

The number of clicks you have to do comes down quite quickly if you realise that
  • There is no such a AI silver bullet that can read your mind and find you games you like
  • People apply ♥♥♥♥ tags to games, this confuses the AI which reinforces my prior assertion
  • Make your own way in this maze, I can suggest a really good book ."Who moved my cheese", it's all about trying something new and being smarter every day by changing your actions every single morning.
  • Tune the recommendations engine/algorithm parameters aggressively, its a bloddy robot, you have to train it!
  • Have low expectations
  • My favourite : scan what is on other peoples game lists, honest, this has worked for me every time

To add on this:
  • People going too trigger happy on their ignore list instead of curating the wishlist and folllowed games.
Some people end up having so many ignored games that it's almost impossible to find a title whose tags/genre isn't clashing with some of the ignored games. So the engine starts throwing things at the wall to see what sticks.

It's easier for a cook to make you a meal you'll enjoy if you tell him the things you like than reciting him the thousands things you don't.

sorry, i just need 1)genre filter in recommendations 2)system requirements filter to exlude some heavy games and vr trash. I dont mind if 5-10% of recommendations will be something new from different genres. But as said before my recommendations are 99% unwanted "new" trash. Thanks for your comments anyway.

You are not going to find a way to filter on system requirements.. anywhere. I have worked in this kind of shop for long enough to know, you gotta use your noggin.

For example I only have Horror, zombies and adult content hidden, and I get pretty far, although I do like some of the above once in a while. So asking for a thing that does not exist is going to feel like you are always going to fail. The trouble with a platform being popular is everyone wants to publish on it.

So Minefrag, which of the other suggestions helped you most?

Liability.

Try using the search function. This is brought up many times.

It is just a variation of the "System Spec Check."

On another note, even Microsoft tried something similar and it failed hard.

You can exclude VR games in the preferences.

System specs you are on your own. Won't happen. Use Google, google "gamename + canirunit". Always check 2 or 3 sites as you'll notice they rate your system differently compared to the specs listed by devs. That already should be a clue why a store won't do it.
