offloading games
this is a trick i have done for years now, i remove large files of a game when i need space and i don't want to uninstall that game, so when i am ready to play the game i repair it to redownload those large files, i think it would be useful with a feature like this on steam called offloading games, it deletes large amount of files until you want to play and it redownloads it, uninstalling a game often removes the settings the saved games etc and thats not actually needed when you want space, removing large amount of game files won't mess with anything personal or any settings it will only free up space.

Bigger hard drive, external hard drive, and learning how to use steam library destinations, are your best friends.

Maybe his priority was cpu / gpu. Or it's a laptop.

i had laptop for gaming (i know its not best but had no choice at the time) for years, and say hello to my good 2 buddies, external hard drives. Its unhandy, of course. Plugging stuff back and forth in a laptop. But it is a solution that works.

I actually got a 4TB external just to store my entire library across all launchers. Then I found out it loads games faster than my old HDD. Far from SSD speed (where I keep the most important games) but it's good.

Few games delete your settings and saves. Even back then an uninstaller usually asked you whether to keep them or not or just not deleted them.

Nowadays most games save their data outsides of the installation folder and don't remove the data folder like ever. And with cloud features you should be able to resotre this stuff easily.

regarding harddrive space i cheaped out not getting a 1 tb ssd instead of 500 gb, as for reinstalling a game that also means reinstalling net framework and all that thats required it's a hassle so i just remove the large files then repair whenever i want to play again.
