Steam Guard is a waste of my time.
Will you please fix, or get rid of, this useless Steam Guard. I really don't like having to check my email every time I log in. Your method of machine recognition is broken. Steam Guard does not provide me any extra security, in fact is lessens it. It is just an annoyance. GIVE ME THE OPTION TO MANAGE MY OWN SECURITY.

You can turn it off.

No, you can not, and still have full functionality in Steam. It has to be on to post this message ffs. Ridiculous!

You can turn if off, they gave you this option many years ago....

Also that claim that it lessens your security is just you talking bs, the point of it was to give an extra layer of pertection to ensure that you're the one logging into the account no one else, which is why it emails you a code.... Duh! if you have it disable, and if someone knows your username, and password, they can freely access your account without you knowing which was kind of the point of the Steam guard to try and prevent which will need them to enter a code, which they need access to youe email in the 1st place. Pro tip for login on private/home PC's, check the box to remember password, so it will just auto login you in, and you wouldn't have to enter details, or the code from the email everytime you run Steam, but only do this for your PC, not public PC's such as schools, cafes, and etc...

Smh...the misinformation in this thread is insane. Duh!

Dr Shadowds, no, you can not turn Steam Guard off, and still have full functionality in Steam. And thank you for pointing out exactly how it lessens MY security. Saved passwords, logining into my email in unfamiliar machines so I can use Steam etc. Like I said in my first post. I would like to manage my own security. I do a much better job.

Do you not have a smart phone by any chance? IOS, Android[play.google.com], Windows[www.microsoft.com] phone? If you had one, you can enter in the code from your phone checking your email that way, but if you get the app instead, you don't need to use your data up for your phone as it works offline just fine to get the code from it.

But I don't see why you want to login into a public PC really in the 1st place, can you shed some light if you don't mind?

I agree, it's awful - not only do you have to look up the code when you first log in on a machine but every single time! And if you turn it off suddenly you have to wait weeks for a trade to go through. Ridiculous.

Since the login is stored in cookies, you most likely delete all cookies after you done surfing. which cause you to have to enter it again and again.

Find out why your cookies are being deleted. That's not something valve can fix.

I delete cookies, for security reasons. I am not asking for help here. As the forum title says, I am making a suggestion to the developers. Your helpful replies are appreciated but not required.

I assure you, that is not the case.

What is this about having to check your email every time you log in? Don't you have a phone or some sort of mobile device?

in my professional experience, its the people who need security most that are the first to op out...

but you can opt out of Steam Guard.. just because you do not like what it entails does not mean you don't have the option

This is like someone installs a lock on your door face detection to give you easy access
Then you go and change your face every day
So you need to reauthorize the new face every day
Then call the system broken

No, the system works fine, you are deleting the cookies, there is nothing broken here the system works like it should
It's your decision to delete cookies, so it's your decision to look at your email every day
