Redesign Steam achievements similar to console trophies
I've been playing my ps4 a lot lately because of the satisfaction the trophies give me. It's so addicting and rewarding to get that platinum trophy and watch your level go up just a little higher. Since it's connected to the network you know where you stand. I would love it if Steam would overhaul their achievement system to mirror something like that. Maybe call them Steam medals?

This would also be a great way for small indie developers to really push their games. In the PS store, the small indie games have mostly gold trophies which are worth more than the bronze ones. They're easier to platinum as well.

I know there's a lot to combat with SAM, I know that, but I think it would be worth figuring out how to make it happen.

We already have achievements. If you're not seeing them pop up, that's on your UI...

OP wants points for their achievements. Oh also probably gold/bronze/etc.

Oh hey look another person asking for rewards for getting rewards... And also someone who didn't bother to use the search feature before posting their suggestion....

Not going to happen because achievements are easily cheated with 3rd party program and no Valve can not stop it because unlike the Xbox and Playstation systems (which have also had their achievements cheated/hacked by people) the PC is not a closed system so makes it much easier to cheat the achievement system.

Oh that too, you're right.

So what? The suggestion isn't to tie it to some sort of reward. As many other suggested already you can just make another score or level or whatever that is not tied to the current level system.

Sometimes I get the feeling some people just repost the same drivel without ever reading the OP.

If it's not related to the Steam level, why not? Currently achievements that are rare get a glow, so it's obvious something like that could be done (ergo bronze/silver/gold). Not sure about points or a value, though.

Perhaps the reward could be cosmetic only? The Steam achievement system hasn't been updated since it launched.

I hate the entire achievements concept in general. The fact that you have to do same idiotic things just to get an achievements (I've completionist OCD), like killing yourself of something. Don't even get me started on achies that are impossible to do like preorder the game or do something in multiplayer even though the servers have been shut down (or so something with a gamepad --- looking at you dead island).

And yet... people are asking for more crap that comes with achievements. No, please no. Instead remove achievements altogether.

I like the achievements as is. The could change and I'd be fine. But if any one asks, they don't need to be a copy of console trophies.

If people enjoy playing games to get achievements, why deny them?

I don't see the point in achievements, but it's a genuine way of playing for many people.

The thing about achievements is that if you are not interested in them... you don't have to try to get them. Some people enjoy hunting for them, the harder the better kind of thing. Some people don't care about the achievements. Personally I could not care less about them.

How about instead of asking for them to be removed, you ask for a way to just turn off the achievement announcement in steam. It won't turn them off in game because thats up to the developer to handle that, but at least it would not see the steam pop up and it would still let people who like these games with 5000+ achievements in them to keep playing them.

I used to never pay attention to achievements or anything. But now that I do, I realize why they are nice to have around. I used to play a game just to beat the story and that was it. I had no real interest past that and I didn't really feel like hunting through the game for more. Now with achievements/trophies I know what all can be done in the game and I now see way more out of games than I ever have before.

Achievements help me realize what I could achieve. Some things are hilarious, some are just really cool things that I would've missed.

What harm could there be in updating the leveling system to reflect how much a player has taken the time to complete a game? I say none.

You are totally ignoring the programs out there that can instantly unlock every single achievement for every single game you own in literally seconds.

Thats the harm it would do to the leveling system. Imagine having 1000 more 1 dollar games popup each month all with 5000 achievements in each one. 10 bucks gets you 10 of these games and 50,000 achievements. If each one is worth 1xp, well there is 50,000 more XPs. Lets put in another 10 bucks to buy 10 more of them oh hey there is another 50,000 XP.... guess I don't have to buy any cards anymore, buying dumb games that I will never play gets me far more XP.

I don't really get what the issue is...

Are they not the same thing?

Achievements & Trophies are just named different,
but seem to me that they are pretty much the same...

I actually like how UPlay or was it EA Games did it...

They just started to Award people for gaining levels
on their Profile Accounts...

If I remember right, you gain Currency for the Shop,
after you level Up, or something...

I really like that idea... & you also get currency when
you buy the Games, too...

It is something like that, I can't remember exactly,
but they reward you in some way shape or form...

PSN Had at one point allowed people to showcase
their Trophies in a "Trophy Lounge Room" which I
thought was kind of cool...

I guess it's a Room where you can visit, & walk around
looking at all your Trophies on the Wall...

STEAM is so behind the Times...
