Steam Awards are block voted and not even close to the best games of the year
Say what you will, throw those insults out freely as you can't bruise my soul with the internet lol. Lately, the best Steam games awards are a total crock of crap and nowhere near what the best games were for the year. The votes are exactly the same as the 'block voting' that happens in politics around the world and they always cause a stir in the international community. Come on, think about all the amazing and awesome, big and small budget games that didn't even make the cut, what rubbish you have allowed to happen Steam! These awards should be judged on 1: A selected panel of judges, even if that panel is 1000 in size but all have to be fair. 2: ALL player reviews and curators to be read through for the games nominated by this panel. Any other way is just pandering to the masses of block-voters and not fair on the game developers that get overlooked for some 2bit basement gaming house.

Its the community that votes for those games, nothing else. Its really just that.

It means a great deal to a developer that's invested years and cash into a game only to be out voted for some b-grade game all because of a community focused on just a few types of game genre. Some dev's don't even use Steam anymore because of 'the community' so it's a lot more than nothing.

All nominations were done by the community, so were all votes on the finalists.

Also, citation needed for Devs that left Steam due to the community.

And another one who doesn't understand the idea of "popular vote".

It's a community award, nothing more and nothing less. Of course the winners will be the ones who gathered the most votes in the Steam community, it's how it works.

Also keep in mind that reviews can also be seen as popularity votes and that quite some curators are mere users who placate to their audience. So that would mean it's still a popularity vote...

The awards were about as good as the new UI...

My that is a big wall of text just to say "stop liking what I don't like"

3. And ironically we'd still be having this very same conversation.

You guys take these awards way, way, WAY too seriously. These awards are way closer to the Mtv MA than the Oscars.

Given that people crave badges, most votes were probably random and also that voting got you cards, i would imagine most people voted randomly too. People that use applications to farm cards have plugins that would randomly vote for you, to save you having to do it.

While there is incentive to vote, you're going to get a LOT of 'i dont care, i just want the card' votes.

They shouldn't have changed the categories to "best of" and instead continued with the nonsensical ones like "Villain most in need of a hug" or "Best use of a farm animal". Although that wouldn't have changed much in terms of the outcome regarding popular games getting everything.

or people di, to get the cards, voted for the game that called their attention the most. When your theory invbolves an unfalsifiable assertion...its probably wrong.

Which would have been a trick given the limitations iimposed on the voting pool this year.

In which case they click on the game with the prettiest picture...which again is still a measure of popularity.

I miss those, they were funny and they actually required a bit more thought if you actually took it seriously. But people got waaaay too confused. The same people who are now positing conspiracy theories as to the vote being rigged, or biased, etc, etc, etc.

I agree with that. I had a slight bit more interest in that than faux-fan awards that look "serious".

Absolutely. Those were my favourite awards TBH.

The awards should have been kept in the cheesy road. These are not awards where devs really get something out of it so instead of being the 12654th 'siriousbussines' awards going down the cheesy and tongue-in-cheek road would have made them stand more on their own.

Considering the cringe that was the VGA...I don't think there's enough tongue or cheek to beat that joke.

There is a point where reality becomes so absurd that satriore becoems impossible,

Actually ... I would be far more interested in a game proudly promoting their "game I am still confused about" or even "game that got anti-SJWs up in arms the most" than "game of the year" or any game that has their ratings plastered all over the thumbnail/banner like

Ooh, that reminds me, I still have to watch a snark-a-thon about last years PC Gaming Awards/Trailer show. :lunar2019grinningpig:
