Also, citation needed for Devs that left Steam due to the community.
Also keep in mind that reviews can also be seen as popularity votes and that quite some curators are mere users who placate to their audience. So that would mean it's still a popularity vote...

The awards were about as good as the new UI...
3. And ironically we'd still be having this very same conversation.
You guys take these awards way, way, WAY too seriously. These awards are way closer to the Mtv MA than the Oscars.
While there is incentive to vote, you're going to get a LOT of 'i dont care, i just want the card' votes.
They shouldn't have changed the categories to "best of" and instead continued with the nonsensical ones like "Villain most in need of a hug" or "Best use of a farm animal". Although that wouldn't have changed much in terms of the outcome regarding popular games getting everything.
Which would have been a trick given the limitations iimposed on the voting pool this year.
In which case they click on the game with the prettiest picture...which again is still a measure of popularity.
I miss those, they were funny and they actually required a bit more thought if you actually took it seriously. But people got waaaay too confused. The same people who are now positing conspiracy theories as to the vote being rigged, or biased, etc, etc, etc.
I agree with that. I had a slight bit more interest in that than faux-fan awards that look "serious".
The awards should have been kept in the cheesy road. These are not awards where devs really get something out of it so instead of being the 12654th 'siriousbussines' awards going down the cheesy and tongue-in-cheek road would have made them stand more on their own.
There is a point where reality becomes so absurd that satriore becoems impossible,
Actually ... I would be far more interested in a game proudly promoting their "game I am still confused about" or even "game that got anti-SJWs up in arms the most" than "game of the year" or any game that has their ratings plastered all over the thumbnail/banner like

Ooh, that reminds me, I still have to watch a snark-a-thon about last years PC Gaming Awards/Trailer show.
