How to see my shopping basket
I added a game to my basket, but went back into the store to look for more games to be able to check-out all in one go... but I did not find any cool ones to buy.

Now, there is not a basket icon (checkout) in the native client nor a basket icon in the browser, and Amazon or ebay will email me 24 hours from now, but Steam , will not try to close the sale and make money? Because I cannot even get to my basket via the UI.
Why are none of the workflows actually tested in the client? It's not just this one case, it's a systemic UI redesign that we asked for in 2016, was promised..... but right now, getting to the trolley /checkout would help.

I know I am gong to be made out to be the enemy, and i should choose my battles more wisely, but the missing icon is just one of many curious things, like why on earth is the "add game" button in the bottom left of he UI, why is the chat app launched from bottom right, and not the other way around? so please tell me I am being a troll, and I will probably tell everyone about the other UI inconsistencies ; and create a long thread of other UI frustrations, but no. Today all I want is the shopping cart as an icon when I have an item in my basket.

Like most shops, just append /cart:

https://store.steampowered.com/cart/

Note that the cart is session.bound and not user-bound. So you it will not carry over devices/browsers.

There will be a green button/link to take you to the cart if there is anything in it while you are visiting a store page.

When on the store side, not the community side, when you have items in the cart, you will see a new button to the top right which is green, that say cart.

Here is the URL for the cart as well.
https://store.steampowered.com/cart/

Do note that the client, and broswer do not share the same cache/cookies. Meaning if you add items on the client, you won't see a cart, or the items in the cart on the broswer side. If you clear your broswer / client cahce & cookies the cart will be gone, so you have to readd the items again.

Like most shops? Session based? Wow so logging off and on clears your cart - that's a win-win surely?

This workaround of typing random stuff into the address bar works if my native client is set up that way, and is not what a UI is meant for. Basically I do sometimes see the icon, or at least I am pretty sure I do recall seeing the icon - but the client is often so buggy that I think it was not visible due to cache hit issues. I have trust issues with this UI so I refresh whenever it fails, but refresh did not make the icon appear for me. This separation of browser/client and using cookies is an internal implementation problem and poor technology choice for Steam, so may well be the cause. Love it when a bug is by design. :-)

Then I suggest add what you wanted, do it on broswer instead, as they also sell from the broswer instead of the client only.

No, your session will remain as long as you have a sessionid cookie and it's not invalidated server-side.
It's also not a bug. It's how pretty much every shop works. The only difference is that some will save your cart to the user if you are logged-in. But even them will eventually invalidate pending carts.

Caching also doesn't affect the cart.
What can happen is that it doesn't show on browser-back because the broswer gets a saved version and doesn't run the scripts again. But that's a browser issue.

I have never seen anyone else complain about this, nor experienced this myself. So I guess it's an issue on your side.

Yeah, I am pretty sure, since I do this kind of meandering around checkout really often, but this is the first time it ever broke for me. It is easier to do searches and navigate in the browser interface. So not sure what I was doing in the past to make it work, hence my assumption it was a regression.

I got a copy of Gabriel Knight aniversary on sale, so happy now.

This is a major issue... I was using my cart to collect a bunch of games too... This failure on steams part just cost them like 60$ in sales from me alone... I spent hours finding those games. ♥♥♥♥ it, now i don't want to play them.
