Short version, they had it on the old forums, it was abused, it will not be coming back.
Long version, use the search feature.
i dont like you (down votes every post...)
I think that was funny (upvotes replies that had nothing to do with the discussion)
etc....
etc...
etc...
As long as the only person who sees that its clicked is the person who clicked it, than sure. But if it produced any kind of number or anything identifiable that anyone else can see that can be used for a "see I have this amount, I'm trust worthy", its just going to be abused.
And if no one else can see it, its pretty pointless as we will be getting lots of complaints "I pressed this but nothing happened" and "I pressed this why can't people see it, they need to be able to see it... MAKE IT SO PEOPLE CAN SEE IT!!" kind of posts.
at least whats what i think
You could keep it invisible to everyone but the author whose post is being “liked”, sure, though I’m not convinced it’s necessary. As long as we’re not talking about a central, profile-connected reputation feature (and I, at least, am not), then it’s just another thumbs up button on user generated content, which exist already all over Steam, from the activity feed to screenshots, guides, the workshop, reviews etc. If people want to point to a bunch of disparate numbers and use them to try and scam others, they can already do so.
It wont happen for 2 reasons:
1- Downvotes would hurt the snowflakes
2- People exposing the questionable business practices of either Valve or developers would get upvoted and make them lose money.
Use the search function.
We have "mark post as answered." That is enough.
