Hide purchase from Friends Activity option
Now, im not exactly one to really fall victim to this sort of pressure often. But I have found times where I have bought keys for a product over the game itself on steam just to dodge the embarrasing "X Now owns this!" feed. One instance was House Party for example. Not really the easiest game to explain to your friends when they see it and begin messaging you to poke fun at. You can already make profiles near 100% private, you can clear past aliases, go on invisible mode, etc. But this feature is yet to make it to steam. Atleast I think its not there. Anyways, just a random suggestion I thought up. Not so much for me, but moreso just an idea in general.

They can as easily follow you and get the same info. No need to be friends.

Set your profile to private, buy the game, then change your profile back again.
Sure I guess it could be something neat to add, but if you are embarrassed (or someone else is) to buy <insert game> than don't buy it, the main thing I can tell you is who cares what you buy and just ignore them. If your friends poke fun at you play back than, if you can't then ether find better friends or buy your perv games on another account.

This system is not flawless anyways, even if people didn't know you bought <game> they can stumble across the store page and see you own it, (might take longer to figure out), check games on your profile if not private, ect.

Seconding this suggestion, it'd be useful to hide porn game purchases. The world is not ready to know how much of a degenerate I am.

Just don't buy games that you are too embarrassed to have in your library or get a second account for such games.

Listen, if you're not on board with a suggestion, you can at least keep to yourself. There are people who clearly want it and would benefit from it.

People can choose to be in favor of a suggestion or not and have every right to say so as long as they are not breaking the rules of the forum.

When it doesn't affect them in the least, I don't see how it's any of their business, really. You can go search for countless other suggestions you could be interested on, instead.

You don't get to dictate who responds.

Yes I am against the idea. No reason for kids to be able to hide games from parents or family members they should not be playing. So people clearly benefit from not having this option.

Also if people are to immature to have said games in their library without hiding them then they shouldn't be playing them either.

Real world example then. My friend (age 35) purchased a particular adult themed game of the furry variety. His religious brother (age 31) discovered he had it and decided that next sunday dinner was a perfect time to bring it up. So now my friend had to explain to his extremely religious parents (age above 55 each) about this purchase.

So please tell me how my friend was supposed to not care about what his parents think and how this doesn't affect his relationship with them.

First you punch the brother repeatedly until he says he'll never do it again, then say a friend (or the brother) got it to be funny and a free game is a free game and it's whatever.

He all so had the choice to not add or tell the brother or family about the account or actually used his brain for a second and buy it on another account because he should have realised how the family would react if they ever found out.

Hopefully they will have a more open relationship now. Wouldn't have been a problem if he wasn't hiding it to begin with.

But he wasn't hiding the purchase. His brother is just a giant douche. And no they don't have a more open relationship now, gotta love being shunned for being yourself.

How does any of this help his situation? What you're suggestion essentially is "Don't play with friends or family ever" or "see into the future where this kind of thing would be a problem". He literally had the stance that is usually touted as the ultimate answer to this problem of "don't care what people think" and it bit him in the ass. If he had the option to hide this kind of stuff then it never would have happened in the first place.
