Give us the option to turn off the profanity filter
Having one is a good thing but at the same time, Me as a 20 year old should have the ability to turn it off if I so choose.

That will never happen.

Use the search function to find out why.

There are quite a few threads on the filter. Please elaborate.

It also serves to block malicious sites and other bad text. It's more than just a profanity filter. So an option to disable it doesn't sound reasonable or likely. Truth is no one should be posting filtered words, and if that was the case, there would be no need for an option to disable to begin with.

I see many of your posts in those threads, Matt. Thanks for the hard work!

This may seem like a dumb question so forgive me but why not just make two separate filters for either purpose? Filtering malicious sites and words separately would allow the functionality and means for it to be turned off if you wish.

Cause 2 lists that do the same thing is redundant and a waste of dev time and maintenance. There would have to be a big migration effort of splitting the list into two. And once you give people the option to turn off the word filter then they'll just ask for the option to turn off the link filter which brings us back to square one. What exists currently works fine so why change it.

Yeah it'd be nice to be able to just read what was written.

Because people want it changed. Same as any other suggestion. Steam works as it is, why alter anything at all?

Are there no already 2 lists, the one that sets the "link removed" and the profanity filter?

All the same with levels of filtering, whitelist/blacklist.

What other bad text are you referring to besides malicious sites, and profanity? Anything I can think of that could be perceived as "bad text" falls under profanity. I'd personally like to be able to opt out of the profanity part of the filter.

It's already done that way but some bad keyseller sites have a short name and people often just type the name instead of the whole site. So we filter that as well. Along with links.

But we will not have two word filters for just words as that is pointless.
