We need ADULT ONLY games on Steam ASAP
The problem is that the Adults Only rating kills games. This isn’t an exaggeration; most retailers refuse to carry AO games, and no console will allow them on the platform. This isn’t the fault of the ratings board, the existence of an NC-17 equivalent is a healthy rating, this is the fault of the retailers and platform holders falling for the fallacy that video games are still for children.

"The cold war on the Adults Only rating must stop if gaming is to grow up"

Enough is enough. Let adults decide for themselves what they want to spend their money on. We don't need the morality police to tell adults what content they can consume. Steam can find a way to do a better job of age gating AO content. Example: Debt Card # is required for EVERY AO purchase. Or, how about a Debt Card # plus a scan of a drivers' license? What 15 year old kid is going to have all that?

Edit: Thanks for the link to HATRED. I just purchased it simply because of the AO rating to support the developer. The ESRB is a major joke. There are M rated games with more realistic gore than this game. That said, we need a ton of AO games where the games are really good AND have good sexual content in them. Think something like GTA5. Steam better listen to the market: Adults want these games.

There will not be an adults only section, why? because there is no way for Valve to verify people are of legal adult age in what ever country they are from.

Use the search feature this has been discussed MANY times.

Credit card can verify your age, this is how some sites do this. This might be a bright solution. OR make separate platform just for 18+ and ADULTS ONLY.

There are age-restricted games on Steam and little kids like to lie to bypass the age gate while their parents don't seem to care until their spawn see something that they shouldn't have.

If a game is stated to be AO and a kid lies to get to it, that is on them and their parents.

not as far as alot of countries laws go..

to them its the stores responsibility to make sure under aged customers can not purchase adult content, and if a minor does those companies can face very heavy fines..

So make them reenter the credit card information on every AO purchase.

If a kid has mommy's credit card info, mommy can only blame herself.

won't work, still to easily bypassed.. Pre-paid credit cards, paypal accounts, etc..

not to mention, there are plenty of adults who can no use credit cards (bad credit, regional back policies, court order) so requiring a credit card would drop the actual target customer base severly..

why do people go by the age?

10 year old so they must have games around that age then when there teen they can have adult games. now since there adults we can have 18+ games..

steam has never changed you have but you want steam to change to fit your benefits and not the community

You can get a credit card from age 14-16 in my state. not too crazy to see 14 yr old with credit card in high school. Not good way to validate. Only Way to validate would be like scanning ID

Kids these days are typing their favorite dirty word plus "Tube" into any search engine, and there they find all sorts of AO videos. The whole censoring of AO games is a joke. Steam better get on board with what the market wants.

We want some AO games that are not purely about blood and gore. We want awesome, well crafted games that have some sex in it.
MADanger May 26, 2018 @ 6:44am
The ESRB is a major joke. I purchased the HATRED game simply because it was rated AO. But really, only a fool would think this is really deserving of the AO rating. C'mon, Grant Theft Auto 5 is more mature than what is found in HATRED.

We don't need the morality police telling adults what content they're allowed to consume. This is a major problem in America. Adults are treated like babies and people are getting really fed up with it.

Steam can find a way to do a better job of age gating AO content. Example: Debt Card # is required for EVERY AO purchase. Or, how about a Debt Card # plus a scan of a drivers' license? What 15 year old kid is going to have all that?

Their latest upcoming title is unrated I believe, and Valve may not be equipped (technically and legally) to securely handle ID documents. You really want to invade people's privacy?

Also, wasn't a similar thread locked by moderators?

For going off-topic, yes. This is allowed to stay, provided it does not do the same.
