exactly this , i want to work on my pile of shame and for now i know i will play phantom breakers battlegrounds and probably Assassins Creed 3 , Revelation , Batman Arkham Origins and lastly an older final fantasy game (either 12 or 7-9 )
but then , i will once again not know what to play , and if theres a good recommendation system thats maybe based on what you play alot or havent tried yet , i can work my unplayed list off alot easier than just going by the alphabet or the completion time on HLTB (like starting with the shortest , which is why i play phantom breakers right now btw)

I really don't get this. I do struggle knowing exactly what to play, too. But I also know exactly that I do not want to play the game a random prompt suggests me. Just because it wasn't me who chooses. Damn, that's probably why when in doubt I resort to watching the same three movies over and over again after randomly starting ten other ones when I don't know what to watch.

During the event I only got shown eligible games I certainly did not want to play. With one exception being what I would have played anyway this weekend.

Sucks to have a free will I guess. ;)

the thing is , i have almost all assassins creed games left , all far cry , all ghost recon , both watch dogs , all gta

i also started most of them and played them for some time , now if i get a quest thingy like " play one of your assassins creed games for 10 hours in the next 2 months , i can do that in the same way i often do achievement hunting . i get a set goal and i complete it , that way i dont have to spend hours making lists for games i will play in 2018 , since steam can just give me suggestions (same with "havent played in a long time " i really liked playing portal 2 again after a long break , steam could take a look at the games you like alot and then just occasionally remind you to replay them ( i wanted to play some isaac or rebirth again for some time , i just always forget about it )

ideally , steam could give you trophies/ achievements or whatever for playing the games that get recommended , doesnt need a value just something atleast , maybe they could also add a system that asks you if you enjoyed the game , and then they make improved recommendations or something

"Playing a game" means "started through Steam" for Steam. I have not played any of those games this event longer than it took me to find the exit button. ;) You didn't even need to start the game itself as there were some workarounds. Everything related to perceived value would immediately be abused.

My biggest complaint on this spin thing was that it didn't even took installation status into account or at least it didn't look that way, might just have been lucky to get one installed game each time.
If I want to play a game, I certainly do not want to wait until it's downloaded first.

The most stupidest thing was today was my "Clear the Backlog" task that featured a game that I had 100 % achievements on. Although funny enough, I didn't played it through. Which is my other concern: some of the games you *definitely* do not want to touch another time.

But yeah, with some filters, I can see it work.
Stuff like:
- choose from a set* (like your AC games only) or category
- exclude certain games* or even better categories (like "trash I don't even know where I got from" or "completed")
- only use installed games
- playtime filter (seems already in place)
- recently updated (new content!)

* and I really mean black-/whitelist and not being forced to create yet another category for this

And most importantly and by no means limited to the randomizer:
- achievements missing
- trading card drops remaining

I am looking forward to see if and how they implement it. I just hope they put a bit more thought into it than in some of the other bananaware features ...

agreed a playtime filter would be great . i have games i havent played much at all , like fallout , skyrim ( or other TES games ) since i havent even started some , it could just recommend them at a certain

or there could just be a button "i dont know what to play and then based on filters and completed games , steam selects 3-4 games with a " what about these ?" sentence , then you can either select "yes or no"

its often really just a thing of having sale categories and not even knowing what you already own atleast for me

Didn't read the thread, adding support for spin cycle to stay.

I like the idea of Spin cycle becoming a permanant option.
Also the "clear the backlog" button.

Does anybody have a clue on when the library overhaul is going into effect? I am hoping the spin cycle is going to be a part of that, and also it will be a good time to better organize my library.
