A lot of websites like https://steamdb.info/calculator/ and https://steamladder.com/ and many more can calculate total playtime.
But we don't have that feature on Steam itself.
Only if it is optional. If it is mandatory, I'm voting no.
SAM users would love to showcase their million achievements on Achievement showcase. We should remove that one too.
People who use trading bots would love to showcase their million trades made on Items Up For Trade showcase, That one should be removed too.
Hence, my opinion about it being optional only.
Yes, remove it all. For once I agree with an idea of yours.
If Valve was thinking like that: "Idlers would love to show off their 100 million total playtime hours" we wouldn't have those showcases I mentioned above, and many more things.
They could put total playtime somewhere in one of the showcases, or in Recent Activity, or make badge that shows total hours but doesn't give any XP.
That way it would be optional.
On my account.
I don't care about others. Make it an option so I don't have to see the total playtime on my account.
It doesn't tell you anything at all but certainly gives fodder to attacks because people are stupid.
People are even stupid when it comes to the two weeks playtime. I have seen someone being called out for having 50 hours on that, which is moderate.
I know people who were unpleasantly surprised with the amount of time (or money) they dedicated to their hobby (not just gaming).
SAM users would love to showcase their 100% completion rate. Oh wait, they already do.
1% of people abusing something that doesn't even have a tangible reward is not a reason to deny a basic feature.
I've often wondered what my total was.
