Add an option to reveal your profile information to people you send a friend request to (even if your information is set to private)
A lot of people would like to show their information to people they send a friend request to, although their information is set to private. And a big portion of people (including me) doesn't (or may not) accept friend requests from any stranger, before knowing at least some information about the person requesting a friendship, even though they wouldn't mind having another friend.
So I think this feature is important and should exist, as it also makes accepting friends more lively and cheering!

Not going to happen. That would allow people to bypass bypass privacy settings, making them pointless.

No I meant the person that is sending the friend request has the option of revealing his profile info for the people he's sending requests.
So he/she can allow this option if he/she wants, and the people who send this person friend requests wont be able to see his/her info even if he allowed this option. (Because HE/SHE is the one who needs to request, so that the person that the request is being sent to, can see their info)

All of this if their info was set to private to begin with.

And then the scammers and spammers start putting their links and offers in the profile info and getting people to see what they want without needing the friend request to be accepted.

What would that have to do with that?
If the scammers want to show their so called links and offers they can do so by setting their profile info on public, and if the person who accepted their friend request fell for their tricks, then he'll also probably fall for it if it was on their profile.
It's already that way for friends only, I see no reason to not have the option as part of the request.

BTW, OP wants to have the requestor's profile visible to the requestee, not the other way around.

It kind of reads both ways, going by the title vs what was said in the comment.

Yeah that part definitely does, but the first sentence kinda clears it up better imo.

because under the current system having that info public for everyone to see increases the risk of the profile being reported by people that see it in other ways and aren't easy targets while your idea lets them hide it from general users while having a way to display it to the targets they have picked out who even if they wouldn't add the person as a friend are more likely to trust and follow them or to leave them alone and not report them for it.

hmmmmm...
Okay, I get what you're coming from, it's logical non the less... You're right about that for sure!
But... I think that this feature would have more positive outcome than negative, and this kind of problem could also be solved later on upon improving the feature... And honestly, I don't wanna be that guy that talks about what he does as if everyone does the same, but I don't think a lot of people reports about scammers they see around steam if they're not targeted by them... I for once don't, because it's a hassle to try and examine every link that I'd see on every suspicious account to make sure they're scammers before I report them :)
I'm trying to think of a safe way this could be done.....

So you are saying you want to put someone on temporary friend status while they decide if they want to accept your friend request. Their information is still blocked from you, if they are set to private, but they can see your information because you have made them a temporary friend. At any time you should be able to remove that temporary friend status, if they haven't accepted your friend request in the amount of time you were hoping for a response; or perhaps Steam should automatically remove the temporary friend status after a set period, in case you forgot you made them a temporary friend.

Also, making someone a temporary friend should only be an option, not an automatic part of making a friend request.

Yeah that's what I mean :D

and your idea is good non the less :steamhappy:
This is exactly what Facebook does. Your private account is opened up slightly on a temporary basis so people can see who you are before they accept.

Database wise, you could have an option on the account to do or not do it, or even on each friend request (or a default setting that can be overriden on the friend request) and then set a date for the temporary open to be ended.

It's probably actually quite easy for the backend to be done.

I mean yeah its probably pretty easy to do so, especially for a company as steam!
