Show 'Now Playing' Song to Steam Friends (Steam Music Player)
With old things turning new, such as the new friends layout, I think it's time the Steam Music player gets a little attention. I think a good way to revive it would be to make a feature that shows the artist and song title to friends, similar to the way in-game statuses are shown to friends.

Or if it's too cramped, perhaps make a headphone icon next to the name (alike to the mobile icon, VR icon, etc) where users can put their mouse over the icon to see what song they are playing.

As long as its optional on both ends and can be turned off. Personally I don't care what people are listening to while playing games. Just as long as they can hear me in a multiplayer game.

People should be able to turn off the broadcasting of it, along with turn it off so that they don't have to see it.
I loved this feature on the Xfire client back in the day. It would have our username, game we were in or just online status, and then music if you had the add-on for it and playing music (if the artist and music was long it would scroll so you could see it all.)

I would like to see it under the game/online status but if there isn't that much room as said above then adding a small icon ether a headphone or a :FredericNote: would work with a hover overlay with the information.

And if this type of thing would be added only allow bought music on the Steam store be used as you can customize imported music with whatever names like scam sites or something inappropriate.

Pretty sure they would copy over the feature where scam links/names are removed. As for inappropriate stuff, that's down to viewer's opinion and as Gwarsbane mentioned people should be able to opt out of the feature due to such.

I don't care what music you like

Also, do people actually use Steam music player?

I don't, I prefer Winamp.

Hence, my feature request gives a very good reason to 'revive' the use of the Steam music player.

Winamp? Is it the 90s still?

Can't even remember the last time it had an update - thought Nullsoft gave it up years ago.

The one I have is from 2012, but the beta for the latest version, 5.8 is up on winamp.com, and their forums seem to be active. I use such an old version because it does what I need and I can pretty much just move the folder with it in it to a new system anytime I want.

But I'm an odd person, I still do have software that I am using from 1998 that still works perfectly fine on current hardware. I still use it because I haven't found anything better since. Same reason why I still use winamp, I haven't come across anything that does what I want better than winamp. Using steam music player would actually remove one of the features I like the most, being able to just move the winamp folder when ever and where ever I want with no need to keep an installer around.

Well luckily for you, being a part of the human race gives you the conscious ability to do something a lot of other races cannot - make choices.

No one is telling you to use the Steam music player, nor am I trying to convert you from your beloved Winamp. I'm just suggesting something that can potentially give people more reason to use the Steam music player.

OR it could also give people more reason to not use it. There are 2 sides of the coin. Its more bloatware that doesn't actually make the software better. Its just a way to "show off".

Please don't make me repeat myself. I don't want to have to put you down even more with such stupidity you are coming out with - there's only so much unnecessary pretentious sarcasm I can give without it being shameful to myself.

If people don't want to use it, they don't have to - end of.
