Circular Profile Picture + Extra Profile Picture Ideas

Personally I think that steam should add more customizability to how you can display your profile picture. They could allow you to chose from a square profile picture or a circular one, and possibly more shapes. Steam might also be able to allow you to use gifs as profile pictures however this would mean there would be more reported profiles for inappropriate profile pictures. That's the only way I would see that going, however it would still be a cool idea.

Please comment on what you think below, hopefully more people like this idea and someone who works for steam sees this idea.

I kinda like the different shapes with profile avatars might be kinda cool to have and shouldn't be hard to implement.

But having animated gifs probably not a good idea (been brought up so many times over the years and shot down). Slower page load, hits some peoples data, problematic gif (but we have that problem already). But I think I remember a site that allowed gifs and allowed the option to tick for people that didn't want to see them and showed the stock photo being used as their avatar.

Yeah, I feel like gifs would not be the best idea to add. They could only be added if there was a way to hide them, and if it didn't effect certain people, if their devices aren't the newest out there, or just don't want to see them. This would mean that they could get on with whatever they want to without being effected by it.

The problem with animated gifs is the ability for someone to hide an inappropriate frame deep inside the animation so it won't show up right away, but will eventually.

Yeah very true, it's a very hard thing for steam to do, and I don't think it's worth their time, as I don't see to many people wanting to use it, and also it will cause a lot more problems and reports from people.

I could see it being tied to your Steam level, for example.

Yeah, that sounds like it would be good. it would be more of an exclusive thing as well.
