Valve would have done better to add an option for that. As it currently is, either hide them or remove the license. I always do the latter with FTP games/demos I'm not interested in, so I wasn't surprised with a large amount of added games.
Post it as feedback in the correct subforum: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/
Amount of games is irrelevant. FTP games are real games, they merely have a different sales perspective.
You also forget about people who do like to have those games added to their account, nobody asked them whether they were ok with it when Valve changed it a while ago. Hence why I said that Valve should provide an option for it, a simple toggle. Add FTP games and demos to library: yes/no.
At the end of the day you need to provide feedback in the correct spot, so you can be heard. I have posted the same thing in that subforum, as have others. Adding to those threads, which are being centralized by consumers like you or me, will do more for creating awareness than creating a lot of seperate threads which will get lost in the major sea of discussion threads.
Angry rants never worked for anyone. Providing feedback in the correct spot did.
If you don’t like F2P games bring “added“
Stop playing them
Otherwise you can hide F2P games just like any other game in your library
But again the core “problem” is you like playing F2P games. So like stop doing that and the “problem” goes awat
I just looked at my library and it added a bunch of F2P games that I have not played ever. I have not loaded them up even to check them out. Its put games that I have ignored because that are free to play into my library.
Just search by advance options and select tags Free to Play and you will see a bunch of them that you more then likely have never played before in there.
Free to play games should only be added to your library if you play them and even then if you check off a box to keep them there if you uninstall it.
They should not be popping up in my library just because I have played other free to play games.
They're not adding games for marketing purposes. It's just showing stuff that you've acquired a free-on-demand licence for, at some point in the past. You can see exactly when that happened for each game (and remove any licences you don't want) here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/
The only hypothesis I have for how you could have games you've never installed or played there is if you logged into Steam on a computer which did have those games installed, it's possible the client might automatically grab a licence for those games so that they're playable. But I have no idea if that is actually the case.
I'm in the same boat though, I know I don't purposely seek out F2P games, and yet just over the course of the last year I've had over 30 games added to my library without my consent or knowledge. I'm getting a little annoyed myself, but luckily that link you shared made it pretty easy to remove them. I just wish there was a way to stop them from ever appearing in the first place.
Its like apple music with that dreadful U2 album back in the day - giving people free stuff is cool . but ask them beforehand!
I haven't seen anything like this with my library - only games I have bought, or clicked the install or play button on (some free games I didn't install, but clicked the install button just to add to my account). I am on the beta release.
What games were added to your account ?
